Battery Recommendations

Hey guys, my SHO has sat in the (climate controlled) garage for a week while I wait on brake pads to deliver and the battery completely drained. As in, no lights would work or anything else. It's about 3 years old so I think it's time for a new battery.

I usually upgrade to a Optima Yellow Top (YEL34-78) whenever I change the battery but I'm reading that they were sold and now have poor quality. So I'm just curious what you guys are running. I have a subwoofer but it's wired at 4 OHMs so it shouldn't put too much stress on the battery. I still like the idea of a deep cell or even a lithium battery. I don't mnd spending a little extra for an upgrade but I don't want to go crazy. $200-300 range is my sweet spot. What do you recommend?

Motorcraft tough max. If you want an agm battery. An odyssey battery or if you want EnerSys’ other brand, diehard from advance auto the more expensive one on the shelf

I put a Diehard AGM in my '13 SHO a few years ago. I still keep it on a battery maintainer whenever parked in my garage since I drive infrequently. I won't go back to lead-acid with all of its corrosion if I can avoid it.

No, I wanted closer to factory Ah rating...Got one of their Intensity batteries...closer to $1200 and weighs 11lbs...but gives me way more juice than the Greenline...

Well, my car had a Super Start Extreme dated 09/18 (so it was put in just before I bought it). It's done well for 3 years and since this car is my daily, I've never had any issues with it sitting until now. I've been waiting on new EBC Yellow Stuff pads to arrive so it's been parked for about 2 weeks and the battery died. I left it on a trickle charger disconnected for a few days and it wouldn't charge past 11.7 volts, hence why I decided to replace it.

I shopped around what was in stock locally and ended up choosing between the Motorcraft Tough Max and the Super Start Platinum. I went with the Super Start since its AGM and got a super fresh one. It's dated 12/21 which shouldn't be possible. Apparently battery manufacturers use the next months date if it's within 10 days of the end of the month as they assume it won't reach stores before the beginning of the month.

Odyssey extreme in my SHO, should last 10 years, and I can leave my car parked for a year straight and it will still start.

I daily drove on a Braille 17lb race battery for 1.5yr. It started my car every time without problem. BUT, my alternator kicked the bucket maybe 2mo back and I have a hypothesis that the small battery with small capacity over worked the alternator, over heated it and killed it. I now reserve the Braille for track days. I drive to the track on my motorcraft and swap before I start runs.

Exactly 3 years to the day after I rolled my sho off the showroom, the battery died. I replaced it with another Motorcraft. 3 years later it died. This time I bought an Everstart from Wal Mart. The Everstart is made by Johnson Controls who also owns Optima, AC Delco, Bosch, Die Hard, Duralast, and several others but at half the price. So far so good. We'll see how this one goes.

Optima definitely isn't what it used to be. I personally like either a Motorcraft replacement or the Interstate Megatron. They've worked well for me. The Everstart mentioned above me seems to be a popular choice but I haven't used it personally.

I almost pulled the trigger on the Motorcraft because of the name. For most fluids/parts/etc it's hard to go wrong with Ford's recommended brand. When I researched, I found photos of some Motorcraft AGM batteries but couldn't find anything AGM in a 65 series. I even called a local dealship and the parts guy was adamant that no AGM Motorcraft battery existed.

Mine's been running strong for 3 years so far...no issues with it or my alternator. But it also lives on the Braille trickle charger that comes with the battery when it isn't running. I've also been running a Lithium battery from Anti-Gravity in my Harley for 5 years now and still going strong, no issues with the charging system at all, but it too also lives on the trickle charger that comes with the battery. Both Braille and Anti-Gravity make quality Lithium batteries. Braille seems to have motorsports cornered while Anti-Gravity is strong in the power sports arena (motorcycle, quad, etc...)

Yup...can do it just fine...as a matter of fact, many jump packs are lithium...

...as a matter of fact, I have one of these in each of my cars. It has been a lifesaver on a number of occasions, especially on the wifes car. She can do it all on her own without having to flag someone random to help jump her car. I've used it a ton on my tractors and riding mowers too, LOL. Fits right under the seat of all my vehicles. Don't mess with the cheap knock-off ebay/amazon brands...go with AntiGravity on these...trust me, the quality is unparalleled. It's cranked over my F550 work truck without skipping a beat, a number of times before needing recharging...so it works...

You have the 21lb battery right? I think I went too small with the 17lb. I have a TINY lithium in my dirtbike. Looks like a pack of cigs. I have had zeros issues with it.

It might also be the 12th week of 2021. Date codes on a lot of electronic components are coded that way, although usually without a forward slash between the week and year.
