Hey, it's me again.
Quickly becoming discouraged. My wife was dirving our 94' SHO ATX to work (which was my first problem), but my second problem is that it died on her and wouldn't start.
The problem started two days ago when we were driving home in a snow storm (in PA) and the battery light on the dash started to flicker on and off. By the time we got home it was continuously on and stayed on ultil I stopped the car, turned off the headlights and revved up the RPM's at which point it dissappeared. Car started fine two days later and drove 5 miles to work and back (light still on), and to work and half the way back the second day. On the way back home (with lights on) the car started to flicker on the console lights and the computer on the climate system reset. After shutting it off it would not start and I had to jump it. Started right after the jump and stayed running as long as the headlights were off. Began to run poorly as soon as the lights were turned on, but never died. Drove back to her work (BMW dealership) and turned it off, and wouldn't start back up.
What is the problem?
I think it's the alternator, but the battery doesn't look like it has ever been replaced. The terminals look good, and nothing smells hot. I don't know more details because I just bought the car two weeks ago.
Please help.
where is the best place to get the parts for this little jewel?
Thanks!
Russ

From your description it could sound like an alternator. However, IMO even with the headlights off, with all the electronics that are run off the alternator I'd be inclined to say that it wouldn't run (for very long) if the alternator was bad.

I'd be more inclined to check your battery terminal connections and possibly take the car down to an auto parts store and have the battery checked. Most of them do it for free, of course they do like you to buy from them
