battery light on

OK today the battery light comes on and idle and then it shuts off at about 1200rpms and stays off 1100 and under it stays on anything over that it comes back on. what could it be voltage regulator?

2 things ,

Grey connector ,small one one the alternator , is messing with you , cry cleaning it , re-clip it.

If its not that ,the alternator is shot. To verify put a multimeter on it , Voltage running should be near 14.4V. If not , bad alternator.

If its the case , RUN to your garage have it replaced. or its gonna drain your whole battery , and youll need a new batt as well if you wait too much.

checked the connector it wasn't dirty if i wiggle it around the light goes out. but it came back on i don't have a multimeter handy to check the output my battery is fairly new it has 1000 cranking amps. any thoughts

If you wiggle it , and it goes , its just the connector thats loose.

Try cleaning it , i donno what the other do for making it go away (making it stiffer connection?) . Most likely your alternator should be OK.

Put some tune up grease on the connection (petroleum jelly works too-vasoline). If that dosent keep the light from coming on, get a new alternator yesterday.

Just my 2 cents since your around there check out your battery cables.If they are in crappy condition change them out. $25 now can save you a headache later. I learned the hard way this Arizona sun is darn hot in August while your waiting for help.

the cables are fine while i was in there i cleaned up my posts terminals and my ground on the car not they're all shiny. as for the alt i am not looking forward to replacing it. thats $160.00 less in my pocket. damn auto zone

Gee wizz, the alt. could be bad. what do ya think. Does it put out 12.5v? Did ya check?

That sounds like what my 93 3.2 did right before the alt died. only cost around $150.00

it probally will die but its still getting a charge above idle so i'm not worried right now. i may just get it rebuilt

What ever you do DO NOT GO TO NAPA for the the Alt. I have gone through countless alternators before I got a working one from them on several cars and trucks, who ever re-mans their stuff SUCKS! at least its easy to replace

yeah seems like autozone is the only way to go theyre price is killing me $100.00 core $175.99 for the alt. geez i wish i could find a better price. oh wait i found this great deal $237.00 for the alt $80.00 core and a 1 yr warranty? i cant belive theyre asking that much thats nuts

On mine the battery light is really dim with car running-the light comes on full bright sometimes-alternator charges fine and sometimes when it sits the battery goes dead in a couple of days-other days it doesnt.what the heck i say.

Thats what my batter light did when it went.. Lit up at idle and when i accelerated it disappeared... Figured I could drive to oreilly get a new one.. Well on the way back it started to get brighter and brighter.. Then the lights starting getting darker and darker.. hehe... Died and had to pay 80 bucks for a tow.. If the cables are fine its probably the Alt.

the light went away altogether yesterday afternoon i opened the case and sprayed it down it carb cleaned nasty black crap came out and it seems fine now

That black stuff was the remains of the brushes as they wear down. A new brush set is usually cheap and easy.
