okay so about a week ago my car wouldnt start do to not enough juice from the battery, i jumped it and it started up fine and drove perfectly normal,

then my battery wasnt charged at all, no lights would come on when i would turn the key, nuthin happened,

so i got a new battery thinking that was the problem

it started righgt up after i put the new battery in it

i drove it over the weekend with no problems, then i come out to my car on Monday and the battery is completely dead again,

i had to have my girlfriend come jump my car, it takes about ten minutes for my car to get full booost to start, but it will start up and drive fine,

i think it is the alternator but my buddy who has owned a SHO in the past says that it is not the alternator because if it was then the car wouldn't start at all even if you jumped

what do you guys think?

thanks in advanced

Go get the alternator checked at autozone, then you'll know if it's putting out what it should be. It's either your alternator, or you have something putting a draw on the battery when the car is shut off (my aunts sho did this).

He says that because you will either spend an extra hour or two getting yours rebuilt...or you will spend COUNTLESS hours swapping in warranty replacements when your "brand new" autozone alternator takes a dump every 3 months.

Local shops use higher quality electronic components...they test the thing PROPERLY before calling you and telling you it's done...and when you go to install it you don't have to swap pulleys and cross your fingers.

Well, I've never had any of the above problems with an AutoZone reman. Every alternator has come with the correct alternator pulley. All have lasted more than 3 months. The shortest-lived one I've had, died 13 months into a 12-month warranty . . . .

In the absence of having the alternator/battery/charging system tested, it's difficult to definitively determine whether you [had] a bad alternator, battery, or battery/starter cables.

If you end-up buying a remanufactured alternator and can afford it, I would [personally] purchase a Ford reman.

If you'll search the forum, you will find quite a few posts on out-of-the-box problems with many remanufactured alternators and starters. Unless you're buying an OEM or other high-quality remanufactured alternator, most "less-expensive" rebuilds do not completely rebuild the faulty alternator/starter. Instead, they only rebuild/replace those internal components of the alternator/starter that fail their nominal testing procedures (hence how they undercut a Ford remanufactured unit which is completely overhauled). Many of the "less-expensive" rebuilds simply clean-up and rebuild the alternator and starters using the remaining used parts that do pass testing, thus exposing the next-weaker-link which fails much earlier after the install, sometimes within a very short period of time (do a search using the keywords "alternator" or "remanufactured", combined with another term such as failed or failure).

I own a 1991 ford taurus sho and used to be a manager at Auto Zone. I Have a auto zone life time warranty alternator for my sho mine has lasted three years and is still working fine and I drive this car a lot so I would take your battery and your alternator to the zone and have them checked out if they pass I would check your wiring
