LCAs can be found on line for as little as $65 each. These are MOOG LCAs with greasable ball joints. In your local parts store they will be about $85 each.
No special tools are required, but a large socket is necessary to remove the axel nut (30 or 32 mm ?)
Loosen the axel nut with the wheel on the ground. It is a lock nut and will resist being removed. Remove the tire and wheel with the car up on jack stands.
Back the axel nut all the way out to the end of the axel. Then tap on the axel nut to drive the axel in toward the center of the car. This is to loosen the axel in the hub. The nut on the end of the axel protects the threads. The nut will be replaced when you are done.
Once the axel is loose you can remove the ball joint pinch bolt and nut. Then remove the nut on the strut rod and the nut and bolt on the inner LCA connection to the body.
Now you can pry down on the LCA to disengage it from the ball joint. I use a bottle jack to push down on the LCA. I set the jack on the intersection of the LCA and strut, and put the other end on the inner fender lip. I protect the surfaces with a small piece of wood.
Now that the LCA ball joint is free of the steering knuckle you can remove it. Consider replacing the strut bushings while you are at it. Replace the ball joint pinch bolt and the nut.
Replace both LCAs and have the front end alignment checked. Torque all fasteners to specification. rangerj
