bad thermostat?

What is/are the symptoms of a bad thermostat on the V8? For the subject,I was at Pepboys for like 20min and I lost 3/4 of my water in the overspill resivoir! Why would the car spit out that much coolant? I seee no ******* leaks or apparent gyesers of fluid. Any help is always appreciated!---Alaric

T-stat failure is rare on these cars.

More likely, your tank has cracked and the system can't maintain pressure. Outside possibility of a cap failure, but I've seen 10x more tanks fail than caps.

You should be able to find a replacement tank at most auto parts chains, RockAuto or eBay for under $40. Don't bother asking for a SHO tank, just tell them you have 24v DOHC 3.0L Taurus, VIN "S". FWIW, most new tanks include a new cap as well so you **** both birds.

I ham ****** the cap once. If it ever gets cross threaded the tank is junk and will not hold pressure again. It did just as described and puked out all the coolant. But if is the original tank like Chris said it's cracked on the bottom.
