I just bought a 92 w/134k. If you turn the wheel at very low speeds or standing still, there is a very odd and loud creaking sound coming from the struts. Sounds like somethings about to break. You cant feel it in the steering and it doesnt do it at higher speeds. Does this sound like bad strut mounts?

Possibly, but could also be (more likely) your outer tie rod end. Check to see if it is a greasable unit. Also, when the strut mount bearings go out, they can make some noise like you describe, but without hearing it, it is hard to tell.

It sounds like strut mount bearings like toolman said. I found that if you have some type of spray lubricant you can quiet the noise down as a temporary fix. Just pull the plastic covers of the strut tower and spray down the top of the strut. Like I said though, it's only temporary, the creaking will come back.
