I have a 95 MTX with 165000k on it. Some of you may recognize me from an earlier post about a malfuncitoning CID. Now that its all back together and running, albeit not well, I have no CEL. However it runs bad with infrequent moments of running good. Sometimes it runs so good but then shortly goes back to crap.Checked fuel pressure I get 30 psi at KOEO and 31 at idle. SO i checked the codes and came up with none, then i ran the cylinder balance test and got a 2. Upon checking the injectors with the suggested screwdriver i did notice that one injector does not tick. I don't know how to tell which cylinder this is for. How do you replace an injector? Do you have to remove the intake manifold? How much are injectors? Should I just try some injector cleaner first? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The number two injector is the middle rear Cylinder. You have to remove the intake manifold in order to have access to the fuel rails and injectors.

V6hova,

Is it the injector, or the electrical connection at the injector?

That is a rhetorical question. Get a "NOID" light at a parts store. Plug it into the injector harness at the #2 injector. If the electricity is flowing at the injector, the light will flash. If it does not flash, you have an electrical problem.

If it does flash, you have a failed injector.

Yes, the intake manifold has to be removed to access the injectors, which are under the fuel rail. Before you remove any of the injector harness connections label them, injector #1 #3, #5, #2 #4 #6. They may have the original labels on them, but I doubt it.

Would someone please advise as to where the injectors can be sent to be serviced in V6's area!

Check with your local parts store. They may know who in your area services injectors.
Hope this helps, rangerj

Definitely try the fuel injector cleaner first.

So, you listened with a scredriver touching the injector's wiring connector and didn't hear anything or didn't hear as much as the others?

Do you have a volt meter? If you do, test for at least 12 volts on the red wire of your suspect injector AND several good ones for comparison. You have to have the key on or engine running for this test. If you don't get 12 volts, that red wire has broken off from or corroded away from the other 9 red wires that are supposed to have 12 volts with the key on..

If you have less than 12 volts, say 11.2 volts, you have corrosion probably caused by too much water spayed on the engine compartment. You can make a really good "test point" out of an ice pick and a piece of wire with a battery clip on the wire.

Next get a twelve volt test light and hook its' wire to the positive side of your battery. Touch the tester's point to the negative side to make sure the test light works. Then tape up with vinyl tape all but the very tip of the test point; you wouldn't want to touch the test point to anything on the engine accidently.

Now very carefully insert the test point tip into the injector's non-red wire side. The non red wire is the wire that the computer grounds out when it wants to fire an injector.

When the computer grounds out the non- red wire to fire the injector that ground will also light up your test light briefly, very briefly and rapidly.

At 800 rpms' the test light should "fire" 6 times per second. Should be able to see that with your test point light.

Fuel injector cleaner is easier, huh?

Tom,

Excellent tech tip!

I will have to add that to my list of tricks. Have never used a test lamp since I have always used a meter, however, this is a situation when the test light would be the correct tool to use.

The absolute best place that I have found for an all around ultrasonic cleaning and balancing of injectors is Cruzin Performance. . This is a very upstanding business and Rich Jensen is very customer oriented. Last time he and I spoke he was a bit backlogged, but he put my injectors on a rush status and got them to me before my 3.2 swap even though I waited till the last minute to get them to him. A+ in my book! thumb
