I have a project 90 mtx that failed emissions pretty badly :
Cruise Limit @1800 RPM Hc(ppm) 150 CO(%) - 1 CO+CO2 (%) - 6
Cruise Emissions Hc(ppm) - 181 CO(%) - 2.08 CO+CO2 (%) - 15.08 O2 - 1.72
Idle Limit Hc(ppm) - 220 CO(%) - 1.2 CO+CO2 (%) - 6
Idle Emissions @ 820 PM Hc(ppm) - 427 CO(%) - 2.03 CO+CO2 (%) - 10.33 O2 - 7.46
The p.o. said the car sat for nearly a year, and since I started working on the car, I changed the oil, got new motorcraft plugs, taylor wires, completely cleaned out the intake and changed the gaskets, valve cover gastket set and will be putting on new 02 sensors that I have on my other car.
When i first start the car, it idles fine for the first few seconds, then the rpms drop to about 500 and almost stalls, sputters like that for a coupple seconds then goes back up and idles normal.
I ran the codes, and I came up with the Air Charge temp sensor being out of range, and something with a coil being bad. So I bought a new ACT and will use my other SHOs coil pack before I do emissions again.
Are there any other things I could do to get a better shot at passing?
Draining and putting new coolant maybe? Or a pour-in gas treatment that might help?
Im also going to try and find the SPOUT plug and unplug that.
And on a side note, would slack in the timing chains cause such bad emissions?
Thanks.
