bad crank

When I last reported my engine noises, was hoping it was anything but a crankshaft problem. Unfortunately, it is. One rod bearing was completely gone and the shaft there has been worn beyond repair (according to Searle Ivor folks - THE trusted experts for engine rebuilds in this part of England). So, looks like I'm in the market for a new crankshaft (and one rod) as well as the usual assortment of bearings, seals and gaskets. Any suggestions? The junk-yard search option is definitely out, as Taurus is an unknown name in England. Also, any suggestions on other things to replace or do while the engine is apart? My local Air Force Base mechanic says a new oil pump is a good idea. The engine has 125k miles on it, for reference.

I`ve been told both the oil pump and crank are obsolete.You`re best be is a used one found by searching the online lists.Try going to the SHO related Open Forum,or even here,and posting a WTB thread.Good luck!

It would probably cost more to ship a short block to the UK than the car is worth!

Anyway, try posting a WTB for the a good crank and a rod in the Open Forum. I'm sure someone here has what you need. If you can't get the bearings in the UK, someone might also be able to help you out since they're only about $120 (for mains and rods) at NAPA.

As a last resort, you could try Crankshaft Supply in Minneapolis, MN. Thier US 800 # is 800-777-2067 if you have access to US toll free #'s (they don't list a local # on the web site http://www.fourstarengines.com). I know for a fact that they sell crank kits for the SHO, the only 'drawback' being that they are re-ground and include oversize bearings. I'm not sure on pricing though.

You can try finding a cheap block from this junkyard search here: http://www.Autopartsearch.com They will ship international I just dont know how much.

I don't think that will happen in the UK. He would have to bring the car back to (North) America.

Maybe somebody on the east coast would be willing to let Englandsho buy the short block, then they pick it up, remove the crank and ship it to him then keep the rest?
