so i have ripped almost every wire apart to check how my SHO will not be charging right and i think i might have figured it out. i just replaced my starter last week after it was bad then i come to find no charge on my battery still. i was reading through previous posts after searching that the starter being dirty or bad can make it so the battery might not charge. i tooke my starter off and it is COVERED in oil:nut: i think the car was undercoated with oil a few times. also there is corrosion on part of the starter near the front where it turns the flywheel. can you take your starters to autozone to be tested? hopefully these picures help

one of the main reasons i had to pull starter. that junk bolt snapped off so i have to dig it out. look at all that oil.

more pictures will come when my upload site is working better

well if anyone has any ideas this would be great. i think i have narrowed down everything that it could possibly be. i know that battery and starter are good so this must be it. thanks:hail:

Check for continuity between the ends of the alternator output wire. There is are two fuse links between the alternator and the engine compartment fuse box.

would you happen to be able to explain where these fuseable links are so i can check them while the starter is out?? that would be awesome.

They are in line on the cable(s) that go from the alternator to the engine compartment fuse box very near the fuse box.

An Ohm meter will tell the story as far as continuity. What is the voltage at the rear of the alternator when the car is running? There should also be 12V (battery voltage) there when the car is not running if the wiring and fuse links are all good.

ok i got the clean non oily starter back in today. im reading 12 volts at the battery at rest all hooked up. i read 12 volts when i put it on the positve end of the alternator and the negative probe onto the negative post on the battery at rest. i read 12 volts on the battery when the car is running and 14.5 from the same spot on the alternator when the car is running. seems like everything is ok but i thought i was supposed to be reading more voltage at the battery when the car is running. does this all sound right? hoping to have it on the road next week! front bumper cover is getting all put back on and then body work.

There should be less than say .5V difference between the battery positive post and the alternator output post using the negative battery post for ground at anytime.

If there is there is too much resistance and the cables are bad somewhere.

ok well all the electrical in the car works great. everything. i just replaced the negative wire from the battery cause it was junk, still no equal charge. i know the alternator i had on it was bad because it failed the test at autozone and my battery light was on in my car. new one works 100 percent positive. i took my starter off and cleaned it and checked all the wires and they are good. what other wires could be bad? i know my alternator works cause i read 14 volts from the post.

so here are what is left i think.

The main harness that clips into the alternator? i dont know what exactly that does. but where does this wire go?

the wire that you crank the nut down on that connects to the alternator. i dont know where that one goes either.

my positive cable? i dont think that is it since all my electrical works.

problem solved

PHEW. damn this problem is solved. i was starting to get mad after i put my starter back on and no fix. well i did some following of wires and getting creative with where i was testing when i noticed a wire was cut right by my starter switch just in front of the driver side strut mount. i stripped the rest of the old crap off the wire and touched it the side where everything else was and vwalla my battery was reading 14 volts. fixed that and now she is as good as new:thumb: getting registered next week and is all road ready for now. thanks a lot for all the help getting this thing running. the 200 dollar SHO lives:lol:
