Thanks for all the help from my past postings. I have a 1997 sho with cams welded. The problem I have been having only happens every now and then. But what it has been doing is...it wants to cut off while driving down the road..all the dash lights will start flashing and the radio will go dead. Then it suddenly stops and drives with no problems ? I have replaced the Cam shaft sensor and the Crank Shaft sensor and recently replaced the trans safety neutral switch. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be going on ? Ive wondered if it could be the vehicle computer going bad. has anyone had these problems and if they did...what was causing it. Thanks.

All the lights going off and the waring lights flashing when they come back on is the car rebooting itself. There is a PCM relay that will drop out if the voltage drops below 10.5V. As soon as it drops out the battery voltage will recover enough to pull in the relay again.

This is probably your alternator.

When the engine is running at idle with the lights and heater fan running the voltage at the battery should be over 13.6V. If not then the alternator is on it's last legs.

Thanks

Thanks SHOZ123 for the info....Ive had my alternator checked and its working properly but you may be right it may be on its last leg. I have also had a problem with my battery at times not wanting to start right away acting as its dead then 2 seconds later it will start fine. The vehicle has 168,000 miles and all of a sudden all the senors are going bad..I guess its time to start replacing things. Thanks again for the advice, I really appreciate it.

It could also be the connections at the MEGA fuse. That is where the alternator output goes into the car's electrical system and where the starter gets it's power.

I've had similar symptoms simply by having bad contact at the connections to the battery posts. Especially the no start, wait 2 seconds, start fine scenario.

It happened to my wife once (not in the SHO) and left her stranded at a store on the opposite side of town. I feared there was a major (expensive) electrical gremlin.
$10 set of battery terminals and it's been fine for 40k.

Visibly, things can look fine, but the connection's just not being made.

You can pick up one of those battery terminal cleaners that's a wire brush that fits on the terminal and roughs up the surface, but if you think that may be the problem you might as well just put on new terminals.
