My back right caliper would stick when I would use the brakes
after a while. So I decided to purchase new pads, calipers, rotors all
around. At the same time I changed my brake fluids. The problem after I did
all of the work is still there. The right caliper sticks, then after a
minute loosens up. When it gets hot it sticks even more to the point where my rim changed color from silver to light gold. My parking brake
works, but if I leave it on a long time the back caliper still sticks. What can be
my problem? Can it be my parking brake cable or any other cable? If yes how much does this
cableor cables cost and how long does it take to change?Or do I just need a greasing job done to all of my cables. My car is an 89 and maybe the road salt and dirt has seized something somewhere.
Thanks

It could be your parking brake cable, or a restriction in that brake line, or maybe a problem with the proportioning valve.

Did you replace the slide pins and/or the mounting bracket the caliper bolts on to also? If they are sezed the caliper cannot slide and could be binding up. I got a new drivers side mounting bracket with pins for $20 US from Autozone.

I'd start by replacing those brackets that have the slide pins. Chances are they are froze up. Just replaced mine last week. Make sure the new ones are lubricated with something like Never Seize so that they won't freeze up i nthe future.

Before you start replacing parts pull the brake hose off and try to blow air thru it (With your mouth). Use heat on the connection to the hard line. If you cant blow air thru, the lines are your problem. By your description this sounds like it. The cable is also a possibility. You can observe its operation. Have someone engage and disengage the parking brake while you watch the caliper. If the cam mechanism is returning properly due to the spring action when the ebrake is released then the cable is fine.

Another thing I've seen happen is the rear caliper mounting bracket actually WARPS after being exposed to the heat of a sticking caliper, etc. So, even when you replace the caliper, the slide pins, etc. it still can't operate properly because the pins don't align with the caliper.

Thanks guys for all of the info. My problem was the proportioning valve. It was completely seized. Stopped the back brakes from disengaging. Changed the piece now my car stops great. No sticking of the back brakes. It was just that piece. Could of saved money because I did not have to change my rotors, calipers, but I did because instead of resurfacing my rotors for 14$, new ones coost 24$. Now I know my brakes will be good for a long time, I mean a little while the way I drive. Thanks shoforum
