Long story short, my drunk buddy stole my SHO 2 weeks ago and decided it would be fun to try to do some burnouts. When I went to get my car the next day I found that it started fine, but it just wouldn't move. After finally finding him he said he thinks he snapped the axle. Looking under the passenger wheel you can definately see the axle just hanging. I haven't had a chance to really look to see what or where it is really broke as he was supposed to fix it (He is a mechanic at Ford), but it is still sitting and I have to take matters in my own hands.

The guy I got the car from has a brand new axle, and probably any other part I need to get it going, but since I have never changed or really worked on these cars, I am looking for info on what could be the problem, maybe an online writeup, tools list, and other parts that may need replaced. This is my daily driver and my project car just can't be driven anymore, so I appreciate any help anyone has. As soon as I get more info on the problem, I will update. I have access to pretty much any tool and air tools. Thanks guys.

1. Loosen/remove axle nut(30mm or 32mm, don't recall)
2. Jack wheel up
3. Remove wheel
4. Remove tie rod(18mm)
5. Remove lower pinch bolt(18mm)
6. Remove swaybar link (18mm, upper nut on strut)
7. Pry the ball joint away from knuckle
8. Pry axle out of transmission(driver side), or out of intermediate shaft(passenger side) and place it to the side, turning the strut assembly.....don't forget to put a drain pan below to catch the trans fluid.
9. Press axle out of hub

Install in reverse.

Shouldn't take but about 10-15 minutes with air tools. ;)

Thanks! I need to look and see if the axle itself broke or it just broke something else. That's the thing about it, my so called buddy says it shouldn't take more than an hour to replace, but he keeps putting it off and now I have no transportation.

A snapped/broken axle will cause the car not to move. Does you speedo move when you give it gas in gear? If so, it's likely that your axle is broke.

As a final step: Punch your "buddy" hard in the gut for 1)stealing and breaking your car 2) driving drunk.

Thanks guys, but from seeing what this guy acts when he works as a mechanic at a Ford dealership and how he has not taken any action whatsoever to even start it, I doubt he will pay me back. I am just going to bite the bullet and do it myself. And no the speedo doesn't move, it revs fine, just stays there in gear. From searching that is my diagnoses and the fact that I seen the axle is connected to the wheel, just broke somewhere where it attaches to the tranny.

If the speedo doesn't move then it isn't the axle, I twisted off and axle the same way, doing burnouts, and my speedo worked fine still.

Hmm maybe hte speeedo works, but I didn't notice it. There is definately something broke which appears to be the axle. I'll have to double check on the speedo wokring though, thanks for the info

If the speedo doesn't move you have just blown the diff. Trust me i know. I thought I had a blown axle, and then I put in new axles, and it still wounldn't move. I took out the trans, sent it to bizzy and i found out I broke the diff in 3 different places. It would have been to much to fix, so i bought a new trans. See the reason your speedo is not moving is because the speedo gear is driven right off the back of the diff. When the diff goes it will usally break the plastic speedo gear. Sorry to say but this could have very well happen.

Man I forgot to check if the speedo worked when I looked at it today. The axle is definately snapped right in half, with the broken off part completely missing

K guys, got it fixed. Hopped in the car and revved it and the speedo moved. Apparently the cv joint or somethign just blew up. New axle in and in under 30 minutes, fairly simple except that when we were pushing it in the garage, the sway bar link (Plastic piece) snapped in half :(
