Hey guys, after performing the work on the passenger side of the Sable. I was thinking on maybe replacing the axle as well. I know of the tool I will need in order to do this... Found just the "puller" for $49.99 (the adapter to grab around the axle shaft NOT including the slide hammer extension). Anyhow... Anyone know where to purchase one of these locally?

Any help is good help,

I guess the Duratec's exhaust runs right in front of a GREAT AREA to pry on...lol

I'll just buy the special order tool from work. If I don't want it... I'll return it!

Did you look at trying to get a prybar or screwdriver in from the top? Couple other things to consider are a dent puller with an L-hook on the end, or just compress the thing and give it a quick little yank (not enough to hyperextend it, but enough to get it free of the tranny -- that's how we do most of them).

Inner C.V. Joint Puller This tool pulls C.V. joints on 1986-current Taurus/Sable. Will also pull other joints having hidden retaining rings. Pry bars can damage expensive aluminum transmission cases, and attempting to do the job by pulling on the axis can damage the roller bearing inside the C.V. joint. With this puller, the axle assembly is popped out of the transaxle without damage, thanks to the straight, even pull provided by the slide hammer. Tool is available with fork only.
Item 2470

Looks like there's a tool for us ;)
