Hey guys I noticed the other day, My car is leaking a thick brown liqiued from around where the axle goes into the tranny. Any thoughts on what it could be? Also while trying to change my CIS I stripped both bolt heads. I have ones on my parts car but how can I get the old ones off now?

TIA Dale

well wingtip, for your brown liquid leak i would say to check your transmition oil and see what color that is, transmition oil is suposed to be bright red and if its brown you got to change your oil and now leak, but it might be an engine oil leak that is just dripping down from where ever onto the transmition, i would suggest that you clean the whole engine so it will be easier to find this leak. and about your bolts get a very tight fit socket pry it on and try to take it off, also if the bolt is stuck use some PB blaster and loosen the bolt because you dont want to snap the head right off or else you wil have to drill and scrap and a whole lot of crap thats not fun
hope this helps you!

For the brown "gravy", check for a torn inner CV boot. It might be grease.

As for the bolts, did you strip/round the ones on the sensor itself? If so, the whole sensor mounting "tube" can be removed at one time without removing the sensor from the tube. If the bolts are rounded, Sears sells a Bolt-out tool that removes rounded bolts/nuts. Not sure if the small "Power Bolt-Out" set goes that small, though....

Alternatively, a Dremel can be used to cut a slot into the remaining head of the bolt or cut the boltheads off. Next time, use the correct 6-pt socket to undo the sensor mounting screws.

I did use the correct socket but my battery sprayed acid and now I have a rust problem. I'll check the cv joint thanks.
