I am getting a Quaife from the recent group buy but I wanted to put new synchros in as well. I noticed that the SS instal kit doesnt come with synchros. Any idea where i might be able to get some?

They are quite scarce. The free kit that SHO Shop is including isn't a trans rebuild kit, just a Quaife install kit, with shims and items like that to help you install your new differential.

For used transmission parts you may try Al fitz (www.alfitz.com)

Good luck and enjoy your new car!

The only synchro that SHO NUT lists is for fifth gear and that shift really doen't challenge the synchro very much. Unless you have been grinding gears with a vengence, it's not the synchros that are worn, it's the blocking rings and they are available from SHO NUT and others.

I replaced my blocking rings at 271,000 miles and found the shifts to be moderately sharper after the change. The synchros looked to be in fine shape with very minor wear to the gear teeth. But then, I don't rush the shifts or strongarm the shifter. Especially after all the effort it took me to replace the clutch and blocking rings.

Just recently had new clutch and tranny work done, including all new synchro's and blocking rings. Picked up the 1-2 and 3-4 synchro's for $171.98
Don't know the availability of any more synchro's but you could call and ask. 888-727-0418 Good luck

I have an interesting question.
Let me start off by saying, i have no clue how a trannsmission look from the inside.
My question is what does a synchro look like? Is it possible to make one on a lathe, or in some machine shop?

Here is what it looks like inside the box. The synchros are under the shift forks. The forks are the cast aluminum "forks" that are similar to the fork at teh far right of the second photo. The synchro consists of a square-cut toothed sprocket surrounded by an internally toothed sliding sprocket that is moved by the shift fork to engage a gear on either side of the synchro.

The fifth gear shaft is the one standing on the right of the second photo with a gear on each end of the shaft. The synchro is the smooth aluminum sprocket just below the upper gear. This smooth sprocket is moved by the shift fork to connect the synchro's inner sprocket (which is solidly attached to the shaft with splines) with the smaller toothed section of the fifth gear sprocket (which is free to spin on the shaft). That is how moving the shifter selects a gear.
