The problem that I am having is that the front brakes have chewed up my rotors. This is unusual since the brake pads are not worn down to the metal. I would expect this if this were metal to metal contact , but this is not even close. Let me just say this, one of the sales managers stated "You know, Rotors only last for one year. That is why you have to change them when you change your brakes." Never mind the fact that these are the OEM rotors(97) with several pad change interval since date of purchase. They even went so far as to tell me that the rotors were damage before I put the brakes on the car. Any suggestion as to what I should do would be quite helpful.

Thanks

Your pads won't eat these rotors: http://www.frozenrotors.com/

Are you looking them up under 1996? I've heard that some parts catalogs screw up the 1996 SHO. 97-99 are usually more accurate.

yeah i am looking them under a 96 sho, i did not know they all carry they same, i know i had bought a new 94 ranger from the dealer one time and 94 pads wont not fit due to it had a 93 front end under it and 95 exploere wiper blades. so from then on i say the year and compare the parts.

In 1999 the Taurus went rear drum. I know this sucks, I am in the process of putting Gen 1 SHO vented rear discs on my 99 SLO.

2001+ Taurus have the 11.6" front brakes. The brake calipers for the 10.9" and 11.6" brakes are the same ones.

Not exactly. Early calipers on the SLO & Sable had a phenolic piston and not the steel piston that the SHO and Conti had. Around mid-'96 they went to all steel from the factory. Almost all remans use a steel piston so it's usually not a problem, but just something to be aware of.
