changed the oil and filter in the tranny tonight.
when I removed the filter, a torx headed M5 screw fall off
:dribble:
It's look like a valve body screw but It looks hard to remove the valve body cover in place.

what do you think about these trannys?
doesn't shift well like it should.

The 93 SHO slushbox is just that. They are weak from the factory. That does not mean that they can not be made to work great, just are not fantastic once they get some miles on the factory unit. As for the bolt. Damn, surely is not a good thing. But difficult to say where it goes. I would suggest that you look around, but the Valve Body on an AX4S is under the side cover. Not the bottom transmission pan.

Do you know if I can remove the valve body cover without removing the tranny?

Yes...... but not easy. These tools are needed if you want to get to the valvebody, you need is an engine cradle, six jack stands, a hydraulic floor jack. and common hand tools.

Now the job ahead, install the engine cradle with the cables so that you have plenty of travel to safely lower/guide the engine/tranny, then jack up the car and put you first pair of jack stands under the car on the unibody. then take two jack stands and place them under the engine side of the sub frame. and two under the valve body end of the sub frame.

Next unbolt the two steering rack nuts, one is easy to get to the not as easy, unbolt the drivers side ball joint and remove it from the knuckle, gently push the rack up a little. Loosen the sub frame bolts.now with tension on the engine cradle holding the engine/tranny,remove the nuts on the engine mounts and the two tranny bolts. now your ready to lower the tranny end of the subfame, completely loose but do not remove the engine side sub bolts, on to the two on the tranny side remove those. but make sure that the floor jack is holding up that side before removal of the bolts. if you have ASFB youll have to remove the bolts and lower the engine side subframe down a inch or two on the jack stands, and back on to the tranny end start using the floor jack to lower the subframe about a far as you can. now with the engine hanging on the cradle use the floor jack to start lowering the engine/tranny and put slack in the tranny end cable as you lower the tranny end. now you can remove the the tranny cradle mountand the valvebody side pan. very minor oil loss, only 3-5 qts when removing the side cover, nothing like when dropping the main pan, now you have gotten to the valve body.

Before you go thru all this, get a pick of the part and I can tell you where it came from, it could save you from do alot for nothing.
