Auto shift handle fix

Whn I bought my car the shift handle has tape holding the release button in from coming out. Is there a fix for this or do I just look for a fine used one?

just look in the jy for a decent one. any 90-95 Taurus / Sable with the console has the same shift asm.

when you put in the 'new' one, I recommend not connecting the brake interlock cable, as those have a tendency to wear to the point that they lock the shifter in park.
