OK a little history on the car, '93 ATX, I bought it with 106K on it with a siezed motor. Replaced the motor, and had the trans rebuilt by one of the guys in the shop I used t owork at. I had all the clutch pacs replaced and all the steel bands. The trans was completely dissasembled, cleaned and then reassembled with the new bands, clutchpacks seals, gaskets, checkballs. He air tested the valve body and it worked fine.

The problem I am having with it now is it takes longer than normal to downshift, and when it does it downshifts kinda hard. I never replaced the torque converter, i just cleaned it out and refilled it, so its the original converter. The fluid is just a little above the hash marks on the dipstick whe the trans is warm.

Any info would be appreciated.

well Nick I think that even though the trans fluid is a little above I would try to bring that down other than that it could possible the vss reporting the wrong speed to the PCM. I am not sure how the kick down works on those though.

My gut tells me VSS or TPS. But check the codes, and report back.

How are the upshifts...?

The vss was replaced when we installed the trans. THe TPS is the original one. I checked for codes and they were a few pertaining to the engine. THe upshipts are also a little slow.

What are the actual codes?

You'd be surprised how many engine sensors have a bearing on the computer's control of the transmission.

you can overfill the AX4S by a good quart or two and its better off.......

it also likes synthetic fluid, that with the added fluid basically lowers temps and lubricates things better, particularily the planetary gears. This comes from the person who has spent decades testing transmissions, and who's company has a patent on the term shift kit.............

take your car and make sure its to the full mark, then dump in another quart, where the fluid resides after that when hot should be your new fill mark, take a file and put a new line on the dipstick..........

the vent is up high on the tranny so it won't come out there, if you've ever taken a pan off you will notice you don't see much from the bottom, its more a less a sump compared to other transmissions. Most have the valvebody on the bottom, or the actual hard moving parts are exposed to the fluid easier and there is no case molding under them like on an AX4S.....

overfilling these transmissions is better then not having enough or having the factory level..... I gurantee you
