atx trouble

hopin i could get some input from people down there in florida. me and my ex just broke up i gave her the 93 taurus gl when we split. the transmission just took a dump on her on I-4. i need some cheap rebuild recommendations. she is in deland (daytona area). she has someone to install/remove. anyone know of any reputable/ cheap as possible shops? the only estimate she got was 1450. unfortanately im in north carolina so i cant help from here. so im turning to my fellow sho owners on this one. i believe that car has the axod in it. any help is appreciated.

If she can get it to Palm Bay I can have that price beaten...I will talk to my friend...he is a reputible automatic transmission specialist who has been in the area for over 10 years. Palm Bay would be 90 miles south of Daytona if that is possible for her to travel.

1450 was remove/rebuild/install just to let yall know . also anyone with a fairly descent used unit would be an idea also. thanks again guys!

Have her call a few salvage yards nearby. There should be plenty of the axods. If she can have someone remove and reinstall then she can get away for under $500 with having the torque convertor rebuilt and new filter/gasket/fluid.

She can definitely have it replaced with one from a junked car for under $1450. No need to rebuild the one that's in the car, those trannies are a dime a dozen.

Have your ex go to a salvage yard in some skimpy clothing and some beer and they will probably give her a tranny for free. It works...

LOL...ill have her look into it ..what im thinking though is the car was maintained meticulously by me...it looks like a 5 year old car and im sure has another 100,000 left in it. so i really hate to put another pile of junk back in it that we're not sure works any better since it does cost money to pull/install them. superchargedshoguy let me know when you get a quote for the rebuild.thanks again guys

This doesn't really say much for the tranny though... you can change your fluid and filter religiously but Ford trannies (especially AXOD's) crap out whenever they damn well feel like it.

no it doesnt speak for the tranny. i knew it was on the way out but what im talking about is the rest of the car. axod's are terrible. but since the rest of the car is in such good shape thats why i dont want to put a junk trans in it that i dont know where its been.

Do you need a price for just the rebuild alone or the full deal (he drops the tranny, rebuilds it and reinstalls)? Either way there is a warranty on the tranny. He left early for the weekend on Friday and I never got to ask him but I will on Monday.
