Been calling around...can't find any new ones.

Time to figure out how to rebuild them.

I'm looking for a consensus.

What type of fluid should I use?!?

If anyone has a new one, please help the SHO community and test the rebound rate of the piston. From the moment the allen wrench comes out until the piston stops moving...This will help me decide what to use for fluid...(I want to use the heaviest fluid I can to avoid leaking in the future and still allow the spring to overcome the fluid).

You must be calling the wrong people. I have plently, and there are still a lot of them out there.

But, good luck trying to rebuild it.

Stage one complete. Disassembly and inspection.
One snap ring...hold your thumb over the piston or you might get hit in the eye....not.

From there, you get this assembly, note the orientation of the parts on the way out.

I too was going to rebuild the three junk ones I bought! Then I called the Ford dealer and bought a new one. LOL. I believe a hydralic repair shop(custom hoses fittings etc.)can get the seal, and I was thinking motorcycle fork oil or somthing similar to fill it.

Soak it in lacquer thinner until it swells to your liking then immediately soak it in Rislone for 24 hours.

I think I will try that. I took my old one apart over the summer just never got around to rebuilding (new baby no money etc.) What type of oil/fluid should be put in the tensioner?

ATX Tensioner

I am about to throw mine away since I am not using it after the 3.2L swap into my '89.

You can have it for the cost of shipping from Port Richey, FL 34668. I think it weights only a pound or so which will make for cheap shipment.

Let me know if you want it or not. I can even throw in the other tensioner pulley too. Be glad to help out a fellow SHO owner.

'89 SHO: 3.2L swap, Tokico/Eibach, 17" TD wheels, Plus hood, etc. Brake upgrade coming soon!
