Hear is an odd one. The 93 ATX had a mystery problem in the spring while the wife was driving. I got to see it happen today. While driving on the highway at 65 it suddenly seemed to buck like it was about to die, see the tach hit 7K - down to under 2k then back to just over 2k, then proceed like nothing happened. Then flashed the ABS light about 5-6 time. This happened in less than 5 seconds. Although not identical to my wife's experience she says it was fairly close.

My OD button hasn't worked in a couple of years but I do count 3 up shifts.

For as long as I have had it, from 132k to 200k, it has had an odd shift into 2nd when you slow down for a corner or go down a hill from a start in first.
In the corner there is a lag in its down shift but then finds 2nd or 1st with a bit of a thud. To avoid this I must let it coast with the foot off the gas for a second or 2 and it will shift smoothly.
In the down hill from a start it thuds into 2nd when I come off the gas from 1st start.

Fluid is good with level and color.

Haven't had fluid and filter change yet.

Was told this tranny was new from Ford at 75k on the odometer.

Haven't run any codes other than the O2 sensor one I know is there.

Any clues?

You might want to consider replacing the ECU. Find one from a 94-95 as it's an upgrade anyway. I didn't have the revving issues but here's my tale of whatever.

The OD would kick in and out irregurlarly. Drove me nuts - especially on the freeway. Crusing along in OD doing 65-70 at 2500 rpm when WAM - all of a sudden we're at 4 grand just to keep up with traffic. Tore the shifter apart a couple of times and rebuilt/refurbed/cleaned everything - twice. No change.
Had sloppy shifts anyway and the trans was ready for rebuild so we rebuilt it. $3K later the shifts cleaned up but still had the OD problem. There was NOTHING else wrong with the car at this point. As the OD acted somewhat normal in the morning when cold the only thing I could figure was a connection going bad, or a relay, or some electrical component heating up and failing. Found another ECU from a car with no known issues here on the board. Put it in and Voila. Problem solved.......
Put a Ted B chip in it after we cured the problem. Now it shifts like an unmodified GM 400(LOL).
