Im wondering. Crappy design aside. I had two trans go and one was a super rebuilt one within 70k.

I have a trans cooler and is it possible to be cooling it to much, say in winter which speeds up its death?

I've been wondering about this too. I have an enormous tranny cooler (almost half the size of my condenser!) and it takes the tranny sooooooo long to warm up when it's cold out... I guess better too cold than too hot, though... right?

No, that is not true! It must be at the proper operating temp to work correctlly & not abuse parts. Just like too hot will cause early failure of some parts. Put a piece of cardboard in fromt of a section of the cooler during cold months. get a tranny temp gauge. Its still better than a MTX with all their things that go bad!

I never did the cardboard thingy in Iowa when i had it.. still do, its just dead.. one trans went from 93-00 (original), next went 00-02ish, its suspect but still, next went 02ish-05ish with a rebuilt, transgo, lubing, etc.

i guess at -20 outside on winter days.. hmm. So this time im pulling the aftermarket and seeing what happens.. spent enough, who cares, ill report back. :salute:

I like mine around 150F and use a piece of rigid plastic that can cover more of less of the cooler depending on ambient temperatures.
