i never realized how much an sho atx tranny was.....and it has to be rebuilt almost as often as a clutch needs to be replaced doesn't it???? well. i am likely getting an atx with no tranny, and i need to decide wether to part it out or keep it and put a tranny in it.....any advice???? or other options....

If you plan on keeping it for a long time, spend the extra cash and get a tranny from FPS.It is definately more, but it won`t need to be replaced again.

I second that. My cost for a 94 ATX from my local dealer was $1370+ (list $1706). A decent local tranny place was anywhere from $1600-$2400 for an R&R depending on how bad it was inside. Not cheap. Seriously consider Doug or Shawn at IPT.

I can understand that.Alot of times you get responses that are the best route, but not the feasable one. While they do go bad,a rebuilt stocker should last you a long time anyways, just not forever like the FPS.

Smokesho,

Keep in mind that these guys are quoting US dollars as well (most likely).
Plus, when it crosses the border, you are going to be hit with the 15% taxes and probably a brokerage fee (depending on how they send it).
Take Fred's average of his suggestions at around $1700 US, convert to $CD to around $2600 or $2700, plus $405 taxes, plus a brokerage fee of perhaps $50.
That is the unfortunate part of where we are and where all the SHO aftermarket places are.
If we did not get hit with all that, I would have had a shopping list of stuff sent from IPT by now but the conversion plus taxes plus brokerage just does not make it feasable.

When ordering smaller stuff(under 70 lbs)from the USA, insist that they send it USPS parcel mail. Canada Post only charges $5 per item for customs clearance. UPS charges WAY more! But you're right, the dollar exchange sucks right now, 63% the last time I checked...OUCH! But you can still find deals, especially on ebay. I just bought a 7" LCD monitor off ebay for $325 USD + shipping. In total it will cost me about $650 CDN with taxes. The same monitor at local shops is $1200!!

oh i know all about the dollar. honestly, though it may be far fetched....i am hoping to find a tranny and have put in...all for the low low cost of apporx 2000 cdn. maybe i'm crazy, but i wanna find a wrecked one and maybe it'll work like that....if not, i may be listing the car for parts so....who knows. but really, i'd love to have two shos for a while. the other thing is my g/f might buy it when it's done in a few months or a year, so i am keeping that in mind. but thanks guys.

well, I guess the other route would be to take a road trip down to FPS and have him put it in, bring it down by truck and tow dolly, and going back by driving your car! Saves the taxes and all.
