Attempting the Moog CC chop

The rear has no springs cut, and rides like crap sits higher than SHO with Eibachs. The ride is awefully stiff, with almost no suspension travel. The inside rear wheel looses contact with the pavement with I back out of my driveway now. Really weird. I cannot see cutting springs to make the rear lower helping to make the ride softer or increase suspension travel.

I am really contemplating going to Eibach springs... I have Monroe Sensatrac struts and I have read that spring and strut combo does not work together. Why? The car does not get lowered much with an Eibach spring replacement.

Silver 95: What kind of struts are you using to compliment your Eibachs?

I have monroe sensatrack's on the 155K mile MTX. The eibach's are sitting pretty nicelly (took about half a year or so for the final drop) The ride is not bad, its pretty smooth, not too jarrie. I was planning on using these struts again or perhaps something like the KYB's. If i were to ever get intrax, id go with KONI's because intrax really do lower the car quite a bit.

Seriously, it became stiffer after the cut and even more after the 15x7 rims widen my goodyears. Turning is more responsive and the Vulcan hauls ass. Lighter wheel are your friend :biggrin:

you should feel it with Tokicos.... :dribble: :dribble: going three wheel'd is great... especially when coming into a parking lot kinda hot, and you get on the brakes, and turn in, and the right rear comes off the ground.... and then your buddy that was following you says, " dude... the car was on three wheels!!!"

with the Moogs spring rate labeled at 142 or so, you would think they were a fairly soft spring... (well atleast until you push the car alittle)

is the making of a performance suspension..... also.. i have got the car on TWO wheels before.... now that was cool....
and i have yet to put in my SFC's...

Thank you... The ride height with Eibachs looks almost identical to the stock spring ride height. I'm sure there is a little drop, but not much. I just want springs to replace my stock springs and a nice smooth ride. I figure using Monroe Sensatrack struts should not be a problem. However the Monroe struts cannot handle the spring rebound of the Moogs when outfitted in the rear.

Now I am confused. Sensatracs and Moogs on the way but I want a tight feel in the corners and a thump, not a whack, on the straights with *** holes. Is this still a good choice?

Also do we have a consensus on which ends front and rear to cut? Non pig tail ends? Do the rears even have pig tails? I thought that is what made it progressive? Wouldn't want to cut the progressive end then it would be real stiff.

It probably would not be a bad idea to cut off a single dead coil off the front of the eibach's?

Yes... here are the ends to cut.

Hacksaw will work, but it will take a LONG time, and you must use a high-quality carbide blade. Spring steel is very tough.
I cut exactly one coil off of the fronts, just use the existing end as a guide. Fronts: Cut it off of the TOP of the coil.
Rears: off of the bottom.


What kind of SHO do you have, GEN I MTX, GEN II MTX, or GEN II ATX? The ATX SHO's are heavier in the front. So cutting the same springs on an ATX than an MTX will yeild different results.

Are the Moogs a good choice you ask? Yes, if you are driving your car in a state where the roads are well maintained and engineered for cars going >65 mph. Out west the roads are great. However our state of Pennsylvania has roads that are not well maintained, bumpy, have potholes everywhere, and were originally designed for horses, wagons, and buggys. After being out west, I can understand why people like the springs on their SHO's. I have the Moog/Sensatrak setup. I prefered the stock springs to absorb the bumps and potholes around here. I'm leaning toward the Eibachs now... the Eibach springs on my Mustang have a nice ride quality to them, even on PA roads.
