The 214 code implicates the CID sensor (a/k/a camshaft position sensor) or the CID circuit.

There is no 514 code, you might want to double check that one.

i figured out what the IAS is, it's the solinoid that controls the secondaries, was unpluged. now i just have to figure out what the **** is going on with my cam pos sensor. anyway to test the cam sensor? i've been searching thats how i have found some of the info on the other. still searching.

You need to replace the CAM Pos sensor. The symptoms you are having are a bed CAM sensor. The reason why it takes several cranks is the computer is trying to determine which cylinder is number one due to a lack of cam pos input. Each time you crank it the PCM picks a diferent cylinder. until it fires.

The TACH gets its input from the CRANK CENSOR output (and its not directly from the Crank pos sensor) not the Cam pos Sensor.

Yes, just be very carefull with the two retaining screws. They are very soft metal and are easy to strip the heads out.
