i've had this little situation for a while now. as some of you may have noticed, i did not post for a while. that's because my sho had what i thought was a broken engine mount. it turned out to be the bolt holding the mount... i feel dumb. anyway, since i've had it back i've been trying to compile a list of things to get taken care of. among them are solving the oil dissapearing act, that damn noise i can't find (we'll get to that some other time), a blinker relay... and this possible arcing.

ok, here's the description:
at mostly low rpms (under2-3k) if i give it some gas i lose power... signifigant power. it does that whole grumbling thing and sometimes i get a "snapping" or a pop or sometimes like a pop from inside a pipe sound (i hope that makes sense). i've been reading about grounding kits lately and allowed it to put ideas in my head so i fasioned a single cable from the battery's grounding point to the block... this did absolutely nothing. the other thing that made me think maybe i have a bad ground is the stereo whines along to the engine. i'm also running a bit rich (i think, smells rich) and my gas milage sucks.

please help me.

It sounds like it could be multiple problems. I would pull codes first of all to see what is going on. Go to www.shotimes.com to see how. How old are the plugs and wires? Is there oil in the plug wells? Around the front or rear main seal area's? Are all the vacuum lines conected, especilly the ones routed to the secondaries. Check and let us know.

It's good to see you post again, I didn't know what happened to you. I was actually going to post asking where you were(weren't you the one whose first post was about beating a Neon and then getting a ticket?). But to answer your question, I don't have much to offer. Sounds like your car is backfiring, could be timing or vacuum leaks. Check your wiring and hoses at your secondaries located on the back of your intake, check for codes, and maybe unplug your MAF to see if there's any difference. That's about all I can offer and if anything else comes to mind, I'll let you know. Hope you fix the small things soon and it's good to see you posting again.

ah yes, the neon... update:
not only did i kick his assssss...
had the car impounded, yes... got it out the next day, this is old news. the ticket i got was for misuse of plates and unregistered with a schedualed hearing... this is the funny part. that was the day the motor mount broke, on the way home from BEING DISSMISSED FROM COURT!

it was a good/bad day for sure.

ok, back on the subject, i don't think anything is up with the intake end of the car i.e. secondaries, vacuum lines etc. once i hit 3.5k all is well... when i hit 4 all is even better as it screws like it should.

i will definately check that link right now about the codes... i was going to bring it in for that but if i can do it now...

The reason why I mentioned the secondaries is that they are always open until there is vacuum. Now if there is leak in that system, they will remain open at sub 4K rpm which translates into no torque which you describe, when you kit the 4k range when they are suppose to open, then you get the kick in the pants feeling. Hope this helps.

Glad to hear that you got out of that ticket, I remember reading your post about smoking the neon, lol.

ahhhh... i was thinking about cutting those out and replacing them with fog lights. i was also thinking of finding a car that has the same size light but with clear lenses and making them fit... obviously this would require some serious modifications to whatever lights they would be to make them fit... but i've never seen it so it would be worth it.
