I am on the verge of trading our '13 Deep Impact Blue SHO (second owner-49K miles) for a Ford 3 year lease on a Shadow Black '16 SHO with every option but unfortunately the Performance Package. I still owe 50 more payments on the '13 and my payments will go up only $50/month. My wife is going to have to go into a nursing facility (dementia) no later than the end of the year and I have been advised from a financial angle I am better off when it comes to Medicaid (hoops to jump through) leasing rather than having a car in my name. I realize this is a little off topic but would like to know your opinion on whether you would keep the '13 or go for the new '16. The '13 has the CPO warranty through August 2019. I average 8K miles per year. THANKS!

Wow, Steve, your plate is overfull, sorry to hear about the wife, hard to forget that kind of thing ...

Payments wise, sounds like you should go for the 16 (new, right)? A little difficult (if it were me) to give up the Perf Pkg, but if you don't drive the SHO with your right foot glued to the carpet, you can likely do without. Personally, I favor the DIB over the SB :D

I can tell you that from an installation perspective, it isn't all that involved to install the auxiliary coolers found on the PP equipped cars.

I was the 1st to pioneer retrofitting them, and did document the processes in well written "How-To" tutorials.

So I would say yes to acquiring the 2016, & give your wrenching time a whirl, by DIY'ing the aux coolers yourself.

Good luck with the Wife's dementia issues. Certainly a challenge in and of itself. I'm confident you'll come out ahead.

Both with respect to the car conundrum and the Wife's health challenges.

Normally it would not make sense to go from an ownership to a leasing position. However, I understand the situation. It is similar to a bankruptcy scenario where you are better off with a lease on paper.

Whatever you choose, good luck with your car and your family life.
