Apparently, the OFFICIAL not-so-brand-new 2016 SHO

Do you want a more aggressive look for the 2017 SHO than the Mondeo look?

Apparently, Ford has decided not to grace us all with an updated, much-lighter-than-last-year SHO for 2016. It appears to be... the same... exact... car - but with Sync 3. However, at least they've not killed it off for one more year. At least, this all according to the "final specs" for the 2016 SHO on Ford's own media site.

https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/products/cars/taurus/2016-taurus.html

Seems pretty definitive to me. Maybe if we send a mass of irritated letters saying "WTF happened to the new aluminum platform we were promised for 2016, I really wanted to buy a NEW ONE, wahhhhhh" it will spur 2017 to be a redesign, rather than a ****-off. But if they do, hopefully it will be meaner looking than the Chinese edition. I'm all for sleeper looks, but I also want my car to look a little less pedestrian than the friggin' Fusion/Mondeo. The kind of looks that makes people wonder, "is that a normal car, or is it souped up... I'm not really sure."

Anyhow, at least at long last we have some official info from Ford.

At least they upgrade Sync - the word I had heard was that Ford was dropping the MS platform for another one (NEC maybe), so I figured no more upgrades.

the last information we got at the dealership is that it is not Blackberry.

the new Sync 3 is much faster and a little simpler and a few thinks have been taken away. for example, if there is a button for the heated/cooled seats on the center stack, it will not be duplicated on the touchscreen. it is much faster for inputting an address, etc. than the "old" Sync.

I suspect the 2016 will be a short run, like the 2012 MY, as Ford switches to the new model.
Like all new models recently, they are keeping it very quite. I've heard rumors of the new 2017 coming this spring.

It has been known for some time that 2017 would be the model year for a new Taurus in the US. Not clear if there will be a 2017 SHO. No doubt Ford will start releasing info on the 2017 MY Taurus late winter/early spring 2016. A bit late for a "letter writing campaign" now. I'm more interested in weight, power and price than appearance. If I do not like it, I'll buy a used , low mileage 2016 in a couple years.

The new sync 3 is actually quite good. The maps feel very much like Google maps. There's a search bar very similar to a Google search bar that pops up for searching directions, destinations, etc. The interface is quite pretty as. Album art, and some lite artist info shows up as well. The touch screen is also reasonbly sensitive, and responds to swiping and scrolling gestures. And there will be hard buttons/ software buttons for the basic HVAC and radio controls.

As for an american SHO for 17', I don't think it's coming. All of the emphasis is on the TT fusion sport / mkz and continental.

The Chinese Taurus looks HORRIBLE!!! I looks almost exactly like a bigger Fusion! The front end is not aggressive at all with a vertical bumper (NO areo designs), the rear-end has these lazy rectangle tail lights - the ONLY thing I liked was the rectangular exhaust tips integrated into the rear bumper.
