Anyone had any issues with the APIM unit for Sync 3? Have just over 60k miles on my 2016 and the touchscreen, hvac controls and steering wheel controls have started lagging or not responding, as well as constant loss of gps signal.

I’m assuming this unit is behind the dash in the center but not sure. Going in for an oil change next week and going to ask the dealer for a quote to replace. Have found a few online I can buy programmed for around $1,000.

Do a master rest through the settings menu and make sure its not a compatibility fault between your phone and sync.

You can also update the CIP fron a syncmyride account. You download the software to a u.s.b. drive and then plug it to the media hub for about 45 mineuts.

Note if you try the software update yourself, there isn't a progress bar to tell you its updating the software so don't pull out the drive early if you see nothing.

Ditto this. Also remove any USB devices besides the phone.

With my 2016 and 2018, the only times I get lag on the controls is when it's reindexing the USB stick I always have inserted, or right after startup. I played around with Android Auto a few times, but didn't really like it as much as the stock Nav or being able to fit piles of music on the USB stick and not worry about cell coverage while streaming Google Music or watching Google Maps fail to refresh the traffic as I drive to work.

Logged in tonight on sync my ride and showed I had an update for the sync system I downloaded and installed while I was doing some running around.

All worked well for about 30 min, had one time it had a lag right after starting. Last stop I made tonight was running about 30 min and lost gps signal, but screen responded as needed. We will see what happens on the way to work tomorrow, which is about a 40 min drive.

Also wondering if there could be an issue cause by no map update being done. Ford has been sending me notices to update the maps for about a year now.

The dealer did quote me 940 for pain replacement, I’m sure that they will need to diagnose it which will be another 150 or so.

You can get a used APIM and screen for like $300 from a salvage yard. That's how I upgraded my Sync2 to Sync3. Programmed it with Forscan.

Depending in your location, it may be normal to see the GPS word with the red prohibition sign over it. It just means you lost signal temporarily. The sync 3 system does use abs data and some internal sensors to track the car when there is no signal.

If the arrow that denotes your location jumps wildly from your actual location, there could be an antenna, coax cable or apim fault.

If you get he page to change wildly and there is a cross hair like you moved the page then there may be a screen or apim fault.

The map update won't affect anything with the system performance in general. Ir is strictly the map info. So roads, speed limits, point of interests. Thinks like that..

I dont know if there are any generic scan tolls that can pull D.T.C.s from the apim. That may be something else you can look into before getting deep into stuffs.
