Hey everyone,

I have a 1998 with about 73K miles on it. The car is in North Scottsdale and I would like to have my cams welded in the next week or two, the earlier the better. Anyone around this area that you guys know of? I inquired about this a few months ago and someone got back to me but I forgot who it was and can't seem to find their contact info.

I also have the car listed for sale and just submitted my thread to Buzzy a few minutes ago along with a donation. I'm hoping to sell the car as is but if welding the cams will better my chances than I'm willing to do so.

Any input or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Abe,

If you're just going to sell it, don't throw any more money at it now because most people don't know and don't care. Sell it as is and tell them they are getting a discount because the cams aren't welded. Let them get it welded if they want.

I was actually thinking that as well. I just thought no one would buy the car because the cams aren't welded. Plus since I use the car to drive to work, I'm actually scared my cams are close to busting. Who knows maybe they won't bust till 100K miles but I guess I'm just scared to be taking that risk. Oh well hopefully when Bizzy posts my ad I will get some responses.

I also put it up on craigslist.

Thanks for your input!

It was me. I can do them. But as Tom said if your gonna sell it then don't worry about it. If I was in a situation to where I could buy it I would. Its a clean car. I honestly don't think you will get what your asking though, not trying to be shrewed.

Chuck thanks for responding. I guess I will hold off on doing the cams for now and see if I get any interested parties for my car. I've owned the car for 4 years, barely driven it, and I freakin love the car! Just selling it since we need a more economical vehicle for my wife's commute.

I've seen other ads out there that make me feel as if I'm asking much lower than everyone else is for their 1998/99 SHO's. What do you think is a fair price for me to ask? I owe $5500 to the bank, am willing to take $5000 "as is" and I'll pay off the rest to the bank, any lower I may consider but I'm really hoping to get 5 or more. It's just me trying to sell not only a V8 but also during bad economical times, I know that already. I'll just wait and see I guess.

p.s. Aren't I taking a risk continuing to drive my car without the cams welded? I guess that's what I'm afraid of.

Economical is what you have if you take care of it. Honestly what are you gonna get to where your not making a payment on that is going to be more "economical". If you get another car that may get a few more mpgs but you will be spending more for the car so its gonna be basically a wash. I was consistantly in 22-24 mpgs in town and got 30 when I drove it out here. Plus they are a very safe car. My wife hit a Durango head on with our 1st one and walked away with a sprained ankle. If I was you I would get at least 4 new coil packs for the rear, weld the cams, a big tranny cooler, and drive the heck out of it. I know of a couple Gen IIIs with 300k on them.

Chuck,

You are correct about it basically being a wash. Since I only commute about 2 miles to work, I'll drive our Passat that's a lease since we can't be putting a lot of miles on it soo quickly and my wife is not a fan of the SHO lol. I'm gonna wait until my car has been listed for about a week or two and see what types of responses I get before I decide to finally just go ahead and weld the cams since everytime I turn the car on it's a ticking time bomb.

There is someone selling a 1993 right now in the SHO Trade section for $4600. My car is 5 years newer with 73K miles and me asking $5200 is too much? I don't know which is why I'll wait until Bizzy gets my ad up. I submitted my thread on Saturday morning and paid him and I'm not sure why he hasn't put it up yet. I even PM'd him today and he still hasn't responded.
