Anyone here have an Apple iPod? I got one of the new 15GB ones and am looking to directly connect it to my 1997 SHO CD changer. I've found different links to adapters to connect to CD changers but I'm just wondering if any of you have done this and know which product to use.

Thanks!

Not sure how long you have had it or if you could take it back but there is a MUCH better MP3 player out there. It is called a Nueros and all you have to do is tune it to a station and set your radio to the same thing and it "broadcasts" the signal into the air. You do not have to use any wires to connect it what so ever.

Here is the web page for it:

Thanks guys. Well, I can't use the Neuros because I use a Mac, not a PC. And besides, hardwiring directly to the system is much better quality than transmitting it. I was just wondering if anyone here is using an iPod OR some other MP3 player I suppose by connecting it through the CD Changer.

The way you are going to have to hardwire in is no better than the using an RF modulator like you are going to have to do. Doesn't really matter though because you have the Apple.

Anyway.... Give me some info on what you have in your car as far as the radio and so on. If you are using an aftermarket radio AND you have an auxilary set of inputs AND the Ipod has RCA out puts, you could go that route.

Next way is this, if the Ipod does have RCA outputs and you have a factory radio then you can just get a RF modulator that runs in line with the factory antenna and you have to power it. Then you can plug the Ipod into the RCA inputs of the modulator.

That is about your only option unless they make some type of cassette adapter for the Ipod that you stick into the Cassette player and plug the Ipod into it.

Also, just for reference, the Neuros works off of USB and I am pretty sure there is Mac software for it as well. The Neuros sounds FABULOUS especially considering how it works and is wireless. The nicest thing about though is that you can take it from car to car to house to wherever there is a radio and it works.

We have an Officer who uses one in his patrol car and I was blown away by how well it sounded to be wireless. I have been an installer for almost 16 years now and have judge MANY car audio events and it still amazed me!!

PS, just for reference, if a broadcast is strong enough and close enough to a source you will not be able to tell the difference in quality. Don't believe me??? Then tell Direct TV that the sound of there Digital signal coming from space does not sound too good. :D

Hey there ya go, will work just as good and no need to take anything back. :D

Just keep in mind, the closer to the tuner, the better the sound. In our case, the tuner is in the drivers side of the trunk.

I'm currently using a cassette adapter, which (for the iPod) sounds better than any FM transmitter. However, the best way for _the iPod_ is to directly connect it. My car audio is completely stock, no aftermarket head unit. I realize that having a head unit with RCA output would be ideal, but the next best thing is routing it straight to the CD changer port. By the CD changer port I mean where in the trunk, the CD changer is connected into the wiring. I've found different adapters that will plug into that port and you plug an RCA cable (I think, IIRC) that you run (shielded of course) up to the iPod, and plug it into the iPod.

Here is a discussion on the subject at apple.com with some links to manufacturers of these adapters. http://discussions.info.apple.com/[email protected]@.3bbfef39

I'm just wondering which one to buy in order to work with the Taurus SHO.

BTW, anyone ever installed an aftermarket head unit in a 97/Gen 3? Is it hard? Thanks.

If you want help and answers then we are giving them now. The cassette adapter is a HORRIBLE way of transmitting the sound through. Dirty tape heads can **** the sound as well as the fact that you still have the wow and flutter that cassette produces. Also, a cassette deck cannot produce the full sound spectrum, where as a wireless FM Transmission can.

Meaning: Cassette adapter is NOT as good as the FM transmitter.

As for pics of a Gen three radio install, I have done one and they can be seen in this post.

I have an iPod and went through this same debate a few months ago.

The FM transmitters are horrific. They do not have enough power to adequately transmit to your radio. This is especially true in urban areas. The fact that the 3rd Gen SHO Antenna is in the rear only makes matters worse.

I ended up getting a cassette/wire adapter and it works FANTASTIC. I couldn't be happier.

Best of luck to you .... the iPod is a terrific MP3 player. I was reluctant to get ANY player at first, now I can't live without it. wink

Wow that's sad about the Ipod FM Trnasmitters. Glad I know that now before I purchase one. The Nueros has the transmitter built in and you can even have it outside the car and it sounds FANTASTIC. It must be a good bit better quality than the ones that you can get for the Ipod.
