Those are not HIDs.
They look to be coated bulbs, ust for looks.

IMO, the sylvania silverstars are the best on the market. Amaizing lighting, and not nearly as expensive as the similarly capable PIAAs.

I managed to get a set of silverstars off ebay for under $35 for the pair, including shipping.

I put two Sylvania Silverstars (glass housing included) in my 72 Blazer. The one headlight blew the second day I used them. Took them back to Pep Boys and got a replacement. I have not had any problems since. I don't drive it that often though. Maybe 15-20 times a year, maybe a 8 of them at night. I like the look of an old clean truck with nice clean white headlights.

The light appears "white", but the light output appears the same. IMO you are just changing the shade of the light that is emitted from your headlights from slightly brown/yellow to white. When applying a coating of blue to a light bulb, this offsets the brown/yellow light to look white while also acting as a tint. Therefore, the light output is actually less when comparing like-for-like bulbs because some light is lost when passing through the blue tint.

If these bulbs were such a great idea and did increase light output, car manufacturers would be selling cars with them already installed.

So if you like your car to look a little cleaner or different because it has whiter color light being emitted from the headlights then the Silverstar's are a great choice. Don't expect to be able to see better though.

Before and After shots are great. :shakehead:

It should say: This is BEFORE with the just stock headlights on low beam. AFTER, we replaced the headlights and foglights with our bulbs. We turned them all on and held the flash-to-pass on too. We adjusted the shutter speed on the camera to stay open a little longer. Look, even the license plate lights appear a little brighter with our new headlights.

Basically most photos have been doctor'd or the details of what was before and what was after are left out.

The Silverstars do make the stock bulbs look yellow. They are maybe a little brighter. I got some Euro Designs bulbs (8500K) at Hot Import Nights, and they made the Silverstars look yellow. However they were not as bright as the Silverstars at all. I put the silverstars back in after maybe 1 week.

The SilverStars are actually a few watts higher than DOT but they don't state that. The Sylvania XtraVisons are just as bright, half the price but are the normal yellow color.

Never heard of these Extravisions.

Are they relatively new? Its good to know there is something with similar capabilities, AND cheaper.

Having these spendy silverstars, I hardly want to use my headlamps
I used to run the headlamps all the time for safety, but now I just use the fogs because the H3's are MUCh cheaper ;)

Anyone have problems with the Silverstars burnin' up their wiring harnesses? One of my old coworkers bought a new '04 Neon, put them in the 1st week and about a week later, they fried his whole headlight wiring harness. Dealership wouldn't replace it under warranty (he should have put the stock bulbs back in and pretended like they did it) so he had to goto a junk yard and pull one outta a beater and install it. I assume the SHO has a beefier wiring harness. What kind of improvement do you see with those high output harnesses (anyone wanna post a how to on what you need to make your own, I know it's just a relay and 2 bulb connectors)?

The XtraVisons are the same as the SilverStars but without the blue coating. Both are DOT legal wattage and should not be any heavier of a load than the OEM bulbs. They have been out as long as the SilverStars.

The Gen 1-2s have a pretty good wiring harness and headlight connectors, the restriction on them is all the current is going through the headlight switch. This is where the relay setup will help.

I've used the "cool blue" blubs and the silverstars in my SHO. The cool blue blubs sucked big time (but looked cool) and I went the silverstars. The silverstars didn't make much of a difference but they did (vs. stock), IMO.

I just put a pair of silverstars on my 89, they are definitely better than stock but not worth the money in my opinion. I'm going to go with some super/hyper whites that my buddy has on his dodge ram...they are $20 and brighter than the silverstars.
