I've turned my place upside down trying to find my damn title, and it's no where. I know I had it when I moved, but it's apparently found a nice lil hole to crawl into and disappear.

Can I just go to the SOS and get a new one or something? Do I gotta jump through hoops? Can I **** the lil monster in my house that keeps hidin shit?:thankyou:

in nc they just take the registration card and send you a duplicate for like$15.it shouldnt be a big deal if the car was last registered in your name.but this is in nc may be different where you are?

No hoops. Just go to your local SOS with your current registration and DL and tell them you lost the title. If you go to one of the super centers you can pay an extra $10 and get one instantly if you need it in a hurry. If you're not in a hurry, they're pretty quick with getting the replacement one out, usually you'll get it in 7 days or less from my experience.

You'll need proof of insurance too. Just got a duplicate title for the 92 while I was up in Michigan last week myself.

Hmm...I can't say I remember needing proof of insurance for a title reprint...

I'm pretty sure you need Proof of Insurance only if you are registering it.

Id take it just in case and play it safe. When it comes to titles and stuff like that its always good to have more than what you need so your not making trips and waiting in line all day.

The lady that checked me in asked for it. It may have been because I was also there to renew the plate for the 08 year. I was kinda nervous she'd start asking questions since it had my Atlanta address on the Michigan insurance card format. But she didn't. I love MISOS. Like in July when I registered it initially. "How much did you pay for the car?" "Uhh...$100, errr yeah...one hundred dollars."

And the old $100 thing doesn't work anymore- they charge on the original retail value of the new vehicle by the VIN. I used to love that little scam... er... policy.

false. I personally have done it twice this week, and three times in the last year.

I agree. We also registered a car for my son in 2007 and only had to pay on what we stated we paid. The car was a 90 so it was a credible claim without them actually seeing the car. If you were to go in there with a much newer car I could see them questioning it.

And indeed, I was incorrect at saying $10 for an instant title, it is $5. You only need to provide a MI DL or valid out of state photo ID or DL if all you are doing is getting a replacement title. Renewing registration does require POI unless you have a pin number at the bottom of the renewal form. :thumb: I renewed my plate over the internet last year (you can do that if you have a pin number on the renewal form) and I got my new tab in 2 days. :thumb:

Back in Michigan ... again.
Yeah, for sales tax you can tell them whatever you want provided the previous owner didn't fill in the selling price. There would be one helluva revolt if you had to pay sales tax on a figure you never paid out, and I think that's just slightly illegal anyway. If that were the case, just about every SHO nowadays would cost way more in tax than the selling price!

What you DO pay for based on the original selling price is the vehicle registration.

Actually, not sure if this is nation wide or state wide but as of October of last year, Texas goes off of the book value of a car now....so what price we put in the blank is useless. Trust me on that law.... Ive owned a few cars in the last year hehe:thumb: I cant remember the exact date but it was October of last year that the change was made here in Texas...... Definitely slowed me down from all my buying and selling. -Karson

What we're talking about only refers to Michigan as far as I know.

When we renew our tags it is based on book value for cars 10 years old or older. For new(er) cars it is based on another value system they've dreamed up, I think it's based dealer sticker prices or something along those lines.

and we don't have a DMV, and from what I hear, our SOS moves about 3 times as fast as everyone else's DMV. and we don't emissions testing. :snicker:

That is supposed to be coming back here before long.

orly? where did you hear that? from what I had read, it seemed as though the only reason we would is to boost up the state's income, as there would undoubtedly be an infinite number of cases that would be ticketable and profitable to our great poor state.
