Anybody try the 9007 LED headlights?

See link below. I've seen these available for a while and wondered if anybody has any experience using them. Seems like for some cars, the light projection is not focused on the road but act as floodlights to oncoming cars, hence the disclaimer "For offroad use only". I do see some positive reviews, so maybe the Gen 3's headlight projection design is among those that don't have this floodlight effect.

IIRC there have been posts dealing with power requirements above what the harness is rated to deliver. You should search around on the site and see what you can find.

Stephen, I did a quick search of the V8 forums before posting but didn't find much. I didn't bother with the Gen 1 or 2 forums, if that's what you were referring to. I did find a post in the TCCA and several people mentioned what I'd noticed myself - the stock reflector design of the Gen 3's are crap. I spent way too long last night researching a link provided by one user who'd gone with projectors. They were Morimoto DS/2 or something like that. I was looking at the FXR's which are apparently a bit tougher to work into the stock housings, but give better light, cut-off line, etc.

There was a user on this forum who'd had some experience with upgrading to projectors that I haven't seen or heard from in a while. I think his name was Calvin? I have a new, polished set of headlight assemblies that I wouldn't mind putting projectors in, but if I do it myself, I'll run a trial and error with my original set first.

I believe it is the projector lights that can have power issues with the harness. The LEDs should take less power, as you get way more light from an LED than from an incandescent bulb.

Absolutely, and that makes the LED option very attractive. I was just wanting to know if the Gen 3's reflector directed the LEDs' light properly or if I'd be getting on-coming cars flashing me even with my low beams on.

I know there are many fewer folks checking in on this forum than in years past, so I posted in TCCA where it was made clear to me that discussion on the topic (specifically using projectors in halogen housing) can easily get you banned from the site, which blew me away. Is that the policy here as well? Isn't it enough that when we register for these sites, we agree to the terms and conditions, part of which includes ample "hold harmless" clauses, disclaimers, and the like?

I haven't heard much about the LED's for 9007's, but you might want to look into GE Nighthawk or Phillips Extreme Power in a 9007. They don't draw any additional power over stock, but instead have much more precise manufacturing and focus their energy at the exact focal point of the lens assembly. This puts more light down on the road, typically with better distribution.

The trade off is much shorter life, about a year, so carry spares or save your old bulbs. Like them on my Gen 2 the increase in output was noticeable (I changed one bulb first then compared shining on road vs shining on wall etc.).

If you go this route or the LED one, new, good original shape or carefully refinished (and UV protected) factory headlight housings are key to getting any bulbs to work well.

I've had a new set of assemblies and a pair of PIAAs ready to go in for a while, but then I got looking into the HID projectors. There was a post a while back with some pics of a Gen 3 projector upgrade, and the work looked ok, but it's hard to really tell the difference from pics alone. I think I'm inclined to just work with the PIAAs for now, and if they burn out any time soon, well then I have a reason to go with LEDs.
