I've got a 93 MTX SHO, I want to turbo charge it, but need some details on how I can do such a thing to an SHO. What kind of turbo? Will I need to get pipes custom bent, etc.? How much work is actually involved and what will the total cost approximately be? And running at safe psi, what kind of hp and tq numbers would I be looking at? I heard there was a guy on the forum that has done this...

half-way there, I think.
Don't take offense from this... but searching the forum will give you a lot of useful information on this subject. Also, are you not the same person that has gone through 3 transmissions?? You'll go through a lot more with the power a turbo can generate.

yeah try the search function... there is really alot of good threads about this already.
but as for the price, atleast, and this is the minimum, your gonna be up in about 6k. With all supporting mods, and other things, this is were it starts to get pricey.
but if your willing to take that journey, then have fun and good luck! it is possible, as long as you have the service around to do it..

Yes I am, actually 2. The other one was bad when I got it. Here's the thing, I'm getting a quaife for a little help on that subject. Also, I got past the stage of driving like a fool (young punks think it's cool to show off how long of a patch you can lay when you dump the clutch). Not a good idea. Got over that stage. Dumb teenagers, right?
By the way, thanks for the reply. I know what you're saying

There are one or two turbo'd SHO's in the world. It's neither easy, nor cheap.

I recommend searching the forum for things like "turbo" or "supercharger" or "forced induction" and review some of the countless threads that cover this topic in painful detail.

Yea, I saw the SHO Shop had a Supercharger kit, but $5500 just for the kit... Thats up there. I'm looking more around $2000-$3000. I just wanted to see if anyone had put one together without a major bill and a major amount of hassle, and how it could be done. Thanks for the replies guys

ha! 3000k...
you might want to look for bolt on, and suspension mods first.
For 3k, you can have a really good performing, reliable car. as long as the maintance is done...
you wont come along a FI kit for the car for only 3k. Now maybe nitrous, if you dont mind refilling bottles.
thats my .02.

Yea, I've already got a NOS nitrous kit jetted for 75 hp, but I wanted the hp there at all times. I saw a brand new vortech supercharger kit on ebay go for under $3000. Wish I had some money at that time, all I could do is look and drool.

I was thinking I could find a used turbo with not much use on it for a couple hundred and go from there. Maybe I'll just stick with nitrous for a while and throw the money into some cams or something

You can turbo the SHO for $3000ish. People do it on other cars for less than this. :) You just need to have the knowledge to do the work yourself. Measure your angles and by custom mandrel bent pipes from eBay, get yourself a welder, compare turbo sizes and pick the unit that best suits you, and you can have a nice turbo kit for a couple thousand.

You need a turbo, piping, fuel injectors, fuel pump, and some form of tuning. That's it. No more supporting mods than that. The differential and all that jazz can come later. :)

Thanks Mike, I'll have to do some searching, but we'll see what I can find. I agree that you don't need all the suspension components to go with it. It depends how you're gonna drive it. If I was wanting to do autocross, yea I better think of all that jazz before I go out and through a bunch of money into a super or turbocharger, but I just enjoy going to the drag strip once in a while and running with my buddies.

The stock SHO clutch isn't gonna hold up long enough to even see 6 psi. Add a real clutch to the list of "needed" parts.

Low boost = No intercooler needed. Water injection can also be used, its very cheap and effective.

A MAF upgrade will be required, as the stock MAF will be pegged with any kind of boost, and you can't tune a car with a pegged MAF to run well repeatably.

I know about an intercooler, just didn't have it on there. Only a couple hundred bucks for a good intercooler. Got a bigger MAF already.

You will. ;) Just kidding. Truesho, the first thing you NEED to buy before turbocharging is the book Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. Every answer you will need will be in that book, guaranteed. I am working on a low boost kit for the sho but progress has stalled lately. Amazing how much time a 5 week old kid requires! Anyway, prototype completion is still a few months off at least. I have posted a couple of pics showing a little bit of the work I have done in a thread not too long ago, if they could be of some help. If you take the time to plan it out and shop for the best deals, you should be able to pull it off relatively cheaply, although fabrication skills are a must to keep the cost down.

Unless it is a Lincoln 80mm, it will probably not work - the C&L 73mm, Pro-Flow 75mm and 80mm, and any other meter that will work without a chip will not do what you need them to. You have to buy a meter that has more airflow sensing capacity.

Thanks Chris, I have a 3 month old boy and know exaclty what you mean. I do have fabrication skills, thats what I did for a year at my last job. Thanks for the info, and I'll check into that book
