This *was* Shawn's personal car, just picked up last week by myself and another SHOcago crony.

shotrailer.jpg

A picture of the car on the trailer, an all too common site. :)

The car grinds, bogs, snaps, and even went neutral once. With both wheels in the air, there is a knocking/ rattling coming from the differential area. The car has no problem getting into gear and idles smooth, so we have tentatively ruled out a broken pressure plate strap. There's not much after that.

No, what sucks is that Mike has put $4000 into this car, drove it 60 miles, and then this happened.

$2000 later, he should have a Quiafed trans... Mixed blessing I suppose.

Well Shawn's arguement that his car still runs great with his diff, has just ended! He must feel real stupid right now.

Maybe you could edit the title of the post as to mention IPT diff so when people do a search this will come up and they can be forewarned of this danger.

If this is indeed the problem, nothing against Shawn just something about protecting the forum members.

Well, it was nice of Shawn to leave a layer of "paint protection" on the car. Anyone who was at the Victor Ford Show knows what I'm talking about...

Gee, seems like Shawn got rid of the car just in time...
What a convenient coincidence. Somehow, I doubt Shawn feels at all stupid about his previous comments about his personal diff having no issues. Not to inflame the situation, but if it were me, I'd likely be going "whew! I guess I dumped that ***** JUST in time..."

Perhaps the IPT Diff = V8 Cam Sprockets... not a question of "if" but a question of "when"? Time will tell. Moot point apparently, as IPT is out of the SHO game from reports on here. Good luck with the Quaife. I heard a rumor at Chevy's that Mike K is selling them at $1150 installed, and making a huge profit as well. Contact Mike to confirm the price. wink

Counting down the time until Heather posts the inevitable flame attack in response to this...

Interesting how IPT is so washy about the SHO aftermarket. I'm in, I'm out, I'm in, No on third thought, I am out!

They would be better off to make a decision and keep it. I liked the fact they were trying to design and manufactor lower priced options. BUT to shift back and forth would definately keep me from purchasing. <--- Okay...lack of money keeps me from purchasing as well doh :D

60 miles, eh?

You know, you just barely beat me out on that car. I offered to buy it about a half hour after you and shwawn sealed the deal.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Mike will soon be Quaifed... Just got off the phone with them to make sure they have one ready to go.

Honestly, I want people to know that we aren't sure it's the diff. We checked the half shafts and they were fine. The car idles and goes into gear fine, so we ruled out broken PP strap. To top it off, the grinding, crunching, and clunking noises are all coming directly from the differential area. I think it's a safe assumption, but with all the talk about these diffs lately, I want you guys to know that it is just that, an assumption.

With how quick people are to toss fingers around, I don't want to be accused of slandering. So one more time: "We aren't 100% sure it's the diff"

I hope I made that clear. :)

Yep there was a cacoon of crap all over the car that actually sealed in the paint. So when I busted out my dealer only Paint Sheild Protector Cleaner with teflon it turned out the car had paint that was like new. Seriously!!! I was amazed. The funny thing was that the car was littererally sucking up the wax into the paint. But wait until I complete the detail. You will all be amazed.

lol lol lol

On another note ...... You guys (n' gals) have to relize this. PERFORMANCE PARTS HAVE NO WARRANTY. This is sad but true. Unless you have a company making products in mass quanity. When you talk about aftermarket products for the SHO, stop and think how many engines some people have gone through after supercharging them. Metal is a wear-able part. Kinda like brakes. Now i'm not flaming here but come on people ............. These cars are not Mustangs or Camaros. Its not like you can go to your closest speed shop and start ordering performance parts.

What are you guys gonna do if everyone backs away from the SHO from producing aftermarket parts ??? rant
