Is there a way to bypass or disconnect the alarms that go off when you still have the key in the ignition and the door is open? When I am working on the car I usually keep the door open, but I have to remove the key because the little alarm will not shut off.

Sure!

What I did on my mom's explorer (all the same) is take the unit out, and simply pull the little buzzer (like a small speaker) completely out.
Then I put the unit back in and no ding...ding...ding... thumbs_u

Im not sure where it is exactly on the SHO but if you put the key in, open your door (so that anoying sound is there) and peek under your dash Im sure you can find it wink

But BEWARE... my mom has been stranded half a dozen times now for leaving her lights on :p

On my 89, I just disconnected the wire under the steering column. A single black wire with a gray connector.

My warning chime still works for the headlights, too.
