1990 MTX 50k miles. Ok I have an occasional chirp … sounds like when you need to replace the battery on your smoke alarm. Happens about every 20 seconds. Not sensitive to speed or terrain (I can recreate standing still). Seems to be a little louder at +3000 rpm (but not sure). Any ideas?

Just a single chirp? Multiple chirps? under hood or maybe in the dash? just thinking when abs module thermal fuse blows it makes a chirp or beep but those are usually multiple in a row, pause, and then repeat.

If under the hood with only 50k maybe a dated deteriorating rubber part like a belt or a dried out/ corrosion over time pulley or tensioner bearing?

Perhaps the AC compressor magnetic clutch cycling, which is standard operation of the AC.

It can click on under every 30 seconds while it is running in cool temperatures just as a dehumidifier.

You can check the gap between the pulley and the front clutch plate with a feeler gauge, which should be 0.021-0.036 inch.

The gap is adjusted by a stack of shims. If too large, you can remove the shim closest to the thickness needed.
