which is good news, but, the bad news...I AM A FREAKIN' IDIOT!!!!
So tonight, for the first time since before the convention, I decide to really tear into this thing. For those that did not read the other threads, here is a brief synopsis:
Completely revamp turbo system prior to Indy Convention (new turbo, WG, BOV, trans, clutch, get Tweecer, wideband 02, the whole works). Go to start the beast after I have sewed everything back up (in like a week, with a broken and hurting leg!). SHE WILL NOT START! No juice to starter, unless I short across the relay, and no juice to fuel pump, no matter what I do. So, after messing with it for hours, I give up, hop in the nearly stock blk/blk + and have a grand ole' time at Indy.
So, FF to after convention. Car needed a battery and ignition lock anyway, so I purchased those. I removed/cleaned all ground wires, got new cable clamps, and replaced ignition switch, STILL NOTHING! I was getting frustrated. I knew it was something amazingly simple that I was overlooking, but I just could not put my finger on it.
FF to now. I have been crazy busy for the last two weeks, have not done a thing to the turbo, and so tonight I get the tools out, get the drop-cord, and get ready to find out what is going on. My starter relay bolt was stripped anyway (power to the starter), so I got a new unit. Replaced that, put back my old cables on (glad I did not purchase new ones) and started tracing every wire in the harness. I removed intake (really dirty anyway, along with my valve covers) cleaned it up, and continued my diagnosis.
GUESS WHAT I FOUND!!! And someone mentioned this to me in one of the threads. Dang me for not looking it up right away. The harness connections sitting below the TB and above the trans, THE CONNECTIONS WERE SWITCHED!!!!!!!!!!! Dang my color-blind ****, and DANG FORD for making them interchangeable!!! So I knew this had to be it. I put everything back together (cleaner now), powered up my wideband, and started her up.
I CAN NOT FREAKING BELIEVE IT!!! A stupid connector was all that kept the turbo from being at the convention! And then I could have had it tuned by the best! While I am relieved to have it running, I am upset with myself for missing out on that great opportunity all because of a stupid oversight on my part. VERY FRUSTRATING!
Anyway, now I just need to get it Tweec'd. It ran for a while, but only if I kept my foot on the gas a bit, and for some reason the fuel pump was running wide open on the dip switch setting I was on, so I likely need to reflash the correct program in it. As soon I get it running well enough to get some datalogs, I am going to get some assistance in getting it tuned well enough for a dyno session. I have a feeling the numbers that will result will make this entire mess all worthwhile!
So, moral of the story, two parts: One, pay attention to the small stuff, it can come back to haunt you. Second, USE PROPER LIGHTING!! Had I used sufficient light while I was working on her before (found it very quickly tonight with my light shining in there), she would have been at the convention.
So, happy trails, until we meet again (with 500whp!!!)
