I'm not sure how oil can do that? I understand there are different viscosities to oil but I can't honestly see anyone seeing a noticeable enough difference to be able to say "damn it works good." ?

Maybe I just don't know enough about oil?

with similar products like royal purple you may see a couple ponies on a dyno but nothing you would feel. and only if you used it through the whole drivetrain.

Oil starts to break down and get contaminated from blow by. Some better oils resist breaking down. And some have additives that are designed to break up pre-existing sludge deposits.

Amsoil might not break down as fast as dyno-oil, and it might even help clean up deposits and sludge...allowing the rings to seat and seal better...I suppose it's possible that this can slow down the contamination process and free up a miniscule amount of HP.

BUT...if you change your oil regularly, there wont be deposits because the oil hasn't broken down. And there wont be contamination because the oil is changed before it gets contaminated.

I would try Amsoil if it were free but I think I'll just keep changing my castrol high mileage blend regularly. It, too has been designed to break down sludge deposits. It also boasts the ability to recondition seals...thats a big one.

Using regular old "dyno-oil", I started to notice a puff of smoke at start up. Most people I talked to said that the valve stem seals were allowing oil to leak into the combustion chamber. Switching to "high mileage" synthetic blends has apparently reconditioned the valve stem seals. Now I never see that puff of smoke at startup. In the rearview mirror, I notice less "blowby" smoke under high RPM loads.

I guess what I am saying is...amsoil or castrol or mobil synthetic...as long as the additives are there to recondition seals and break down deposits, you CAN experience less oil consumption.

Less consumption means less oil in the combustion process. Which in turn means more complete combustion, less fouled plugs, and more power.

If its synthetic oil, then the +1HP can be attribituted to less friction due to the molecule size of synthetic oil. I believe there is an article some place where they dynoed a car then replaced all the fluids in it with synthetic and gained a couple of hp.

This isnt the link im talking about, but it is on topic go down to lubricants
