So, I know how to run the wires and stuff... All I need to know is, when mounting the Amp (Rockford Fosgate 400x4), should I mount it to a piece of wood, or to the metal?

Either way.

The Amp dosen't care.

I usually cut a piece of plywood about half the size of the back of the seat and screw it to the rear seat support. Since the seat support already has a few holes in it, I don't need to drill into the steel. Also, having the wood mounted back there allows me to place the amp where ever I want without worrying about getting screws into all 4 holes. Also, it makes mounting a power distribution block or...anything you might want to mount...easy.

Okay cool. I've heard guys say mounting to metal can cause buzzing noises, so I wanted to make sure they were full of it...

It can by causing a ground loop.

Best bet is get a peice of 1/4" (I perfer 1/2") MDF cut it to fit the vertically from the top of the rear seat straight down to the trunk (seat angles so it will be 3-4 inches out at the bottom). carpet it with grey trunk carpet. You can drill holes for wiring (before or after) so you will have a neat and clean instalation. Down the road when you want to install a compnent set with adjustable crossovers like Kicker RS6 or Infinity Kappa's etc. you'll have plenty of space to mount them as well.

easiest would be to go take the factory rack and a board. unmount everything from the factory rack then bolt up the board using the stock mounting points for the old amps. then mount your new stuff to the board then remount the upgraded factory rack/board combo to the seat frame with all the new stuff on it. covering the board with carpet material isn't really necessary if you're gonna be using the stock plastic cover to cover it up or will be placing a sub box in front of it. if you like showing off your stuff to potential thieves then that's another story, lol.

i wouldn't recommend mouting it directly to the metal because it can introduce noise whether it's audible or not.

There are many ways to do it but no matter which way its done none of them present themselves to potential theives. This is only accomplished by BIG egoes and large cases of SHOoffites. Theives can only see what you allow them to see and of course playing it so load that it can be heard for 1/4 mile only makes the desire to see it more.:naughty:

Actually the board I was refering to is so far back in the trunk you have to nearly stand on you head to see. I have a modded stock sub box. I also don't run around opening my trunk to show it off either. I like to have nice things I'm just old enough to refrain from the "look at me, look at me" that many others can't.

But you make a good point if your going to build a speaker box than you can mount them to the back of the box (if it fires into the seat). I would strongly suggest not using the stock cover unless your amps are rather small (like stock) as they will not have sufficant cooling when rapped in the cardboard cover.
