I'm looking at getting 2 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1D Subs and I'm wondering what watt amp I should get to power these? I'm going to be putting them in a bandpass box (if that makes a difference I'm new to this).

Also I'm replacing all of my speakers with Pioneers and I want to also power them with an Amp. What kind of Amp do ya'll suggest?

Thanks for your help.

With nice subs like that, I would not be putting them in a bandpass box.

As Jason said - I would recommend against a bandpass box if you're spending the money on nice subs like those. A sealed or well-designed ported enclosure is a much better solution.

What is the power handling ability (RMS/Peak) on those subs?

Power handling is 375 RMS and 1400 peak. Those subs will hit to 18 Hz. Putting them in a bandpass will **** the response. I recommend sealed or nothing at all. Infinity has good sensitivity, good sound, and the Kappa Perfects have gotten nothing but praise since they came out. I'd recommend something stable to 1 Ohm that puts out at least 500 watts at that impedance. 800-1000 would be even better.

So I shouldn't go with a bandpass box?

Can someone list good amps that would go with my Infinitys please?

And also a good amp that would be suitable for powering my speakers...

Thanks once again.

Neither a bandpass nor a ported enclosure is recommended for those subs. Infinity recommends a maximum 1.0 ft^3 enclosure (approx.). Stick with a sealed enclosure; those subs will perform like nobody's business.

As for your amp, some suggestions I have are:
JBL BP 600.1 or 1200.1 (older but very good performers and cheap on eBay)
Kicker KX 600.1 or 1200.1, 850.2 and other higher models

If you want to go cheaper, I recommend Profile, but be advised their power ratings are lower than advertised, so I would go with the biggest one you can get. Basically, those subs will handle most any mono or 2-channel amp you hook them to aside from super-powered competition amplifiers. Search Crutchfield.com and find something in your price range, then watch eBay for it at a lower price.

If you want more advice, try the forums at www.caraudio.com and someone will recommend something to you. Good luck to you, whatever you decide. Let us know how it goes.

Get the 1200.1... I've had two of them. Yes, those subs are for small/medium sealed enclosures. I've got two new Polk MOMO 12"s(original style) and two Polk MOMO 10"(original style) that I am going to use. I'll probably go with one 10" in the 92 and one 12" in the 95 and sell the remaining.

Oh and speaking of E-bay...I was planning on getting a lot of my stuff off there. Is the car audio stuff on there reliable? Because I'm looking at getting a mono Audiobahn amp to power the subs and retail is $750.00 and on E-bay they're $275.00....

Too good to be true?

(Oh and it says the Amp is brand new and comes with warranty)

Look at the feedback of the seller. That will help you make a better decision. I get LOTS of stuff off of eBay. Heck, I just one a "mystery auction". We'll see what I actually get.

ive always been a big fan of kicker amps i guess im just old school as i love the Kicker ZR360 as its ways underrated. its the only amp ive ever found to handle the abuse of heat and not have much distortion. ill always hold true to the get what you pay for with amps. i paid over 600 when it came out over 5 years ago and it still keeps pounding away...just my .02 cents

When i was looking for amps on ebay for my L7s, i found Audiobahns 800 watt 2 channel amp to be one of the best bang for the buck amps. A8002t is the model.
Also, the HiFonics 1000 watt Brutus series amps i thought were good. I ended up getting their 1500 class D amp.
Those are some suggestions.
post on what you end up getting.

Just remember to match the ohms of your amp to the subs you get.
Those are some suggestions.

As stated before, and from personal experience, put the Perfects in a sealed box. I had a pair of 12's and my friend had a pair of 10's. Let me tell you, the 10'***** HARD in a .65 cubic foot box, and they played very very low.

As far as amps go, The JBL 1200 would be perfect for those subs (and stays within the Harmon Kardon brand)

Also, if you are running that much juice to your subs, you better get yourself an amp for your interiors. It will not only sound better, but it will prolong the life of your interior speakers since you won't be feeding them distortion day in and day out. I suggest a JBL 4 channel amp to match the 1200, like this one:

good luck

Or you could use bass blockers on your non-subwoofer speakers. Very simple and inexpensive. :thumb:

i used bass blockers before and found i couldnt get all mid frequencies and i had some distortion. im with 93medusa youll want to amplify mids and highs also to get rid of distortion since they will be trying to play as loud as your subs to sound equal. just remember wattage does not **** speakers, distortion does :thumb:

A "bass blocker" is just a capicitor, otherwise known as a simple 6db filter, will help a little by partially blocking lower frequencies that your speakers might not be able to handle. But it will not prevent the distortion the amplifier is generating from being heard in the speakers. Plus, a 6db slope is very shallow, and really won't roll off quick enough to prevent very many frequencies from hitting your speakers. A 6db per octave highpass crossover at 100 hz will not really block much of the material at the frquencies below 100 hz. a 12 or 24 db per octave filter would work much more efficiently. A litle reading on passive crossovers and crossover slope would help you understand this a little bit better.
