ok so aparently there is two different types of ambient temp sensors. i replaced one. the part number for the other one is YH479 where is it I cant seem to find any info on where this thing is. if you go to oriellys web site or any auto site looking for ambient temp sensors this one will pull up. but where the heck is it? i have found a bunch of simalar situations to mine and this sensor seems to be the prob.

There is an outside ambient temp sensor... that is located in front of the A/C condenser. If you look at your hood latch, it'll be below that and to the right of it.

The other one is the in-cabin temp sensor, and that is behind the little thingamabob in the passenger side dash that says "SHO". If you take a little screwdriver, angle it horizontally through one of the gaps, and pull out, it just pops right out. You can see the little k-type thermocouple sitting back there (looks like a wee little wishbone).

How the **** you get to it, though, is beyond me. I assume you'd have to come at it from under the glovebox.

Please identify what you are working on and which substsyem. We are not psychic.

There is an outside ambient temp sensor...
The other one is the in-cabin temp sensor,

Both of those sensors are present ONLY on EATC-equipped cars.

ALL SHOs have an IAT (Intake Air Temp) sensor mounted in the air filter box or intake tube.

oh yes sorry its a 95 3.2 automatic. i know there is one in front of the radiater hanging on a bracket i believe that is the one hawkeye is talking about. basicly my outside temp reads -40 at all times cause my ac to go full hot. the blend door is i fine i checked that. i get a code 4 which is ambient temp sensor open or short when i do the auto self test. i believe -40 is a short and 120 is open?

yeah, if you hit the "outside temp" button and it says -40, then that sensor in front of the radiator is shorted out. Beware, though, it could be the wiring as well...

That sensor has no real input on the behavior of your A/C inside the car. If your A/C is full hot regardless of what temperature you set the controls at, you're likely looking forward to a BDA replacement.

BDA = Blend Door Actuator = Dashboard, heater core, and A/C evaporator core removal.

ok well its not the blend door because do get cool air when i have it at 60. i know there are similar situations where if that sensor goes bad then your air and outside temp readings will be wrong causing the ac to not function properly. it happens on all cars with electronic ac

if the in-cabin ambient temp sensor is reading -40, then yes, the EATC will think it's REALLY COLD in the cabin and will try to heat it up for you.

Setting it to 60 forces it to go full cold no matter what the sensors are reading. Likewise, setting it at 90 will force it to go full hot. It's a sensor override mode.

ok well i did replace that ambient temp sensor the one mounted in front af the radiater but i am still getting the same -40 could the wiring be messed up somewhere? or is there a way to override the switch. ive looked for where the wire goes from the sensor and it seems like it goes into the wrapping of wiring for the headlights.

The only way to override the switches is the one you've already discovered; namely, setting the temp as far down as it'll go to 60 degrees.

Unplug the sensors and see if you get an circuit open code. If so it's the wiring.
