is there anyway to test the alternator to see if it is still good, i need to keep recharging my battery (it's an old one) and i'm going to buy a new one, but i figured i'd check the alternator while i was at it, 2 birds 1 stone. thanks for any help

Go to autozone/pepboys...etc...and they will test the battery and the alternator for free... just ask them...

I never trust what they say.

They said the battery was fine... Then the battery dies like the next day.

Get a decent multimeter and with the engine running connect the leads to the proper battery terminals. It'll show quite accurately what voltage your alternator is putting out.
