Are those models electric steering? If so, ignore me. If not, sounds like a connection between the alternator showing low and PS not working, I can only figure belt-related.
Pshhh, where were going we don’t need... power steering fluid.

Since no motorcraft alternator is locally available I’m stuck waiting for the replacement to come from Tasca.

Electric. I've started getting the random p0016 code that will go away when I charge the battery overnight. I ordered a new battery as I also get the check charging system message. Fortunately, the car runs fine and I don't lose steering.
Your situation sounds frustrating. I hate electrical problems. That’s one field I can just never wrap my head around.

Swapped out my defunct alternator. Pretty miserable amount of work to shoehorn it in and out. Six and a half hours total. I was however ecstatic when my old one tested bad, and new one proved to correct all my issues.

I didn’t document anything but since I haven’t seen any info or mention of anyone swapping one out on the forum or even the internet for that matter I’ll do a little write up in a separate thread.

Please do. I hope to not have to replace mine, ever, but it would be nice to have a how-to just in case.
