My son and I replaced a bad alternator on my 92. We tried to use the tensioner adjustment with an allen wrench to move the pulley. It only moved so far and did not loosen belt enough. We took the tensioner piulley off. This allowed us to get new alternator in, but now belt squeeks and acts like it burning.

Any ideas?

I think the alternator is OJ and done right. I think the tensioner pulley is ought of whack.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

did you loosen the nut that holds the pully against the bracket? If not, the allen bolt that adjusts tension is probably quite unhappy.

Tensioning procedure: loosen nut, adjust allen bolt, tighten nut back up...

No we did not loosen the nut until after the fact. We did try and adjust the allen with the nut tight. It moved only a little. We ended taking the pulley off to get the alternator in.

That being the case that we did this wrong, how do we recover and return it back to normal?

Thanks...
