Had to hustle to get E-Test done before the plate sticker price went up ($120.00 / year on Sept 1). My 93 had been virtually unused so far this year, but when I started it, the battery light came on. Put a gauge on it and it read 12.2 Volts while running. I also played around with the connectors by wiggling them, with no improvement, and tapped the alternator in case it was brushes not extending.
The E-testing shop is 10 miles away, so I charged the battery (in the car) and it read something like 14 volts on the digital charger display.
When I restarted, the battery light was out and I went there and back with no light.
When I take the alternator for a rebuild, what is the most likely issue? Would it be Diodes, brushes, whatever? The reason I ask is, - I thought once an alternator was not putting out good voltage, the light would be on, irrespective of the battery condition.
